Job description

DESCRIPTION:
This position is a 3-month internship for summer 2027. The Actuarial/Data Science Intern will work closely with SECURA's actuarial team to complete work products supporting rate reviews, competitive analyses, modeling, and business reports tailored to meet the needs of our internal customers. This experience will afford the Actuarial/Data Science Intern opportunities to receive valuable Actuarial/Data Science training, gain professional experience in a business setting, and learn first-hand about the role Actuarial Science and Data Science play in the property and casualty insurance industry. This position will be an in-office role located in Neenah, WI.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in preparing support data used in the rate review process for commercial, specialty, agribusiness and farm lines
  • Apply current ratemaking methodologies to develop rate indications
  • Assist in conducting strategic research and peer company analyses using a variety of sources and tools
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing actuarial data on a monthly & quarterly basis, while learning how to identify and communicate key observations and trends
  • Participate in various projects, including analysis supporting business units (commercial, specialty, agribusiness, and farm), planning, reserving, claims, marketing, reinsurance, modeling, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL:
  • Actively pursuing bachelor's degree in actuarial science, Data Science, or other related field
  • Advanced data analysis skills including the ability to operate & design complex Excel spreadsheets
  • Proficient in Word and PowerPoint
  • Efficient, detail-oriented, and service-oriented
  • The ability to simultaneously be focused and flexible, while working successfully both collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to effectively use automation tools to improve the timeliness, accuracy and content of reports, or to support actuarial research
  • Coding experience in Python is a plus, but not required
