Job Description:

  • Plans, organizes, and implements activity programs tailored to meet the needs, capabilities, and interests of individual patients and groups.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety and infection control policies to prevent harm or injury to patients, employees, or self.
  • Manages department supplies, expenses, and inventory to ensure the availability of necessary materials and equipment.
  • Collaborates closely with the treatment team to assess and meet patient needs through the delivery of multi-disciplinary services.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of therapy programs, making adjustments as necessary to enhance patient engagement and therapeutic outcomes. Develops and maintains good relationships with community agencies to support patient care and program development. Provides leadership and supervision to other Activity Therapists and assistants as directed. Serves as a resource and educator for patients, families, and staff regarding activity therapy and its benefits. Documents patient progress and program outcomes accurately and timely in accordance with organizational standards. Participates in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures. Engages in continuous professional development to stay current with best practices in activity therapy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Department, facility and system-wide responsibilities, which may include reporting responsibilities to Medical Staff and Executive Committees. May be asked to represent BH on system-wide committee and task forces. Customers are internal and external with BH staff, managers, executives, licensing and regulatory agencies, third party payers and contractors. [Required]
  • Works in a modern, well-equipped environment. Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure Category I. More than routine potential for exposure to aggressive and violent outbursts. Real potential for physical harm from non-compliant patient. Subject to extended hours without relief. Work requires the movement of equipment and lifting up to 25 pounds, stoop, bend, reach and stand. [Required]
  • Requires compliance with all safety and infection control policies required to prevent injury to patients, employees, or self. Institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patient conditions. [Required]
  • Bedside Mobile Workstations (BMW), restraint/seclusion beds, belts and equipment, computer, scanner, fax machine, copier, overhead projector, flipcharts, multi-line/feature telephone, DVD, printer, calculator. [Required]
  • Excellent communications and human relations skills [Required]

Work Experience:
