Emergency Room (ER) Technician

A Brief Overview
The Emergency Room Technician participates in the provision of nursing care by performing basic activities of patient care and related support services as delegated by the licensed nurse.
What you will do
  • Takes direction from RN or physician to maintain high standard of patient care
  • Responsible for accurate recording in electronic medical record as directed or needed
  • Responds to pages/codes accordingly and assists as directed
  • Assists with restraints when directed
  • May act as an observer for behavioral health complaints
  • Provides orthopedic support goods or crutches when applicable
  • Follows established safety and emergency policies and procedures in daily practice or emergency situations, including handling of equipment and supplies during emergencies

Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with CNA Certification or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with the completion of a nurse assistant program or minimum 1-2 years' experience or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with EMT certification or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with documented experience as military medic or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with successful completion of fundamentals of nursing course

Experience Qualifications
  • Has worked with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers Preferred
  • Training as a Medical Technician or Emergency Department Technician

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic medical record
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to take direction from all levels of leadership
  • Ability to educate staff
  • Ability to provide counseling and emotional support with compassion and respect for the individual
  • Ability to provide support to the members of the care team (teamwork)
  • Must possess initiative and ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of medical records

Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Nursing Assistant - National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Preferred
  • Emergency Medical Technician - SC DHEC Preferred
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two years is Required
