How much do active engineering jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for active engineering in the United States is $31.55, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.19 and $37.98 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Active Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Active Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, problem-solving abilities, and a relevant engineering degree or certification. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools, and industry-specific systems is typically required. Strong communication, project management, and teamwork skills help an individual stand out in this role. These skills are crucial for designing effective solutions, collaborating on multidisciplinary projects, and ensuring the successful implementation of engineering initiatives.

What is Active Engineering?

Active Engineering refers to the ongoing process of applying engineering principles and practices to actively solve real-world problems, optimize systems, and innovate new solutions across various industries. Active engineers are engaged in designing, developing, and maintaining infrastructure, machinery, software, or processes to improve efficiency and functionality. The role often involves collaboration, technical expertise, and continuous learning to adapt to new technologies and industry demands.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Senior engineering roles in fields such as petroleum engineering, aerospace engineering, or specialized software engineering can reach or exceed $500,000 annually, often including bonuses, stock options, or profit sharing. These positions typically require extensive experience, advanced skills, and often involve leadership or executive responsibilities.

What engineering jobs are in demand right now?

In engineering, roles such as software engineers, civil engineers, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers are currently in high demand. Skills in data analysis, programming, and proficiency with industry-standard tools like CAD or MATLAB enhance job prospects, and many positions require relevant certifications or a bachelor's degree in engineering.

What are some typical projects or responsibilities that an engineer in Active Engineering might handle on a daily basis?

Engineers in Active Engineering often work on designing, testing, and implementing solutions for real-time systems or infrastructure projects. Daily tasks might include collaborating with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, conducting field assessments, preparing technical reports, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. The role also involves regular communication with stakeholders to align project deliverables and timelines. This dynamic environment offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects and develop hands-on technical expertise.

What is the difference between Active Engineering vs Mechanical Engineering?

AspectActive EngineeringMechanical Engineering
Required CredentialsTypically requires engineering degrees, certifications in specific software or tools, and sometimes licensing depending on the projectRequires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, possibly a Professional Engineer (PE) license for certain roles
Work EnvironmentOften involves project-based work, collaboration with clients and teams, and on-site or office settingsIncludes design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing environments, both office and lab settings
Industry UsageCommonly used in construction, infrastructure, and engineering consulting firmsWidely used across manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and industrial sectors

Active Engineering focuses on hands-on project execution, design, and implementation, often requiring specific certifications and practical experience. Mechanical Engineering covers a broader scope of design, analysis, and manufacturing processes, typically requiring a formal degree and licensure. Both roles are essential in engineering projects but differ in scope and daily tasks.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior engineers in fields such as software, petroleum, and aerospace engineering can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, specialized skills, and advanced certifications. High-paying roles often involve leadership responsibilities, complex projects, or working in high-demand industries like technology or energy.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

Active engineering roles, such as certain freelance or consulting engineering positions, can pay $10,000 or more per month without requiring a formal degree, often relying on specialized skills, experience, and certifications. High-paying engineering jobs in fields like software, electrical, or mechanical engineering may also reach this level through project-based work or entrepreneurship, but typically require relevant technical knowledge and experience. Building a strong portfolio and network can be essential for achieving such income levels without a traditional degree.

Job description

Role Summary
The AI Software Engineering Lead is a hands-on practitioner responsible for launching and stabilizing a small pilot using Cursor IDE and Claude Code to improve software engineering productivity and quality. Success means moving quickly from experimentation to working patterns, establishing foundations, frameworks, and guardrails, enabling teams to adopt AI safely, and delivering practical playbooks that can be scaled beyond the pilot.
Key Responsibilities
1) Pilot Execution (Hands-on)
o Lead and execute a focused pilot using Cursor and Claude Code within active engineering workflows.
o Apply AI for code generation, refactoring, testing, reviews, and documentation.
o Work closely with TCS and client engineers to demonstrate real, repeatable value.
2) AI Engineering Foundations & Guardrails
o Define AI-in-software-engineering standards, usage patterns, and guardrails.
o Establish prompting patterns, validation approaches, and responsible-use boundaries.
3) MCP Server Setup & Integration
o Set up and configure MCP servers for Claude Code.
o Enable secure, context-aware access to code, APIs, and documentation.
o Guide teams on when and how MCP should be used.
4) Playbooks & Enablement
o Create lightweight playbooks covering setup, best practices, dos/donts, and common workflows.
o Conduct working sessions to upskill teams and accelerate self-sufficiency.
Required Skills & Competencies
Core Skills
