Job description

The Transportation Operations Manager must maintain operational awareness and be available to support transportation escalations, staffing shortages, emergencies, and service disruptions as needed to ensure continuity of operations.This role requires a high degree of responsibility and offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact, developing new strategies and fostering an environment of growth and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Operational Oversight

  • Oversee daily transportation dispatch operations and route execution
  • Monitor route performance, rider utilization, and service disruptions
  • Ensure beginning-of-shift and end-of-shift operational communications are completed
  • Manage transportation coverage plans for staffing shortages and driver call-offs
  • Ensure operational continuity during staffing disruptions

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, company transportation, and safety requirements
  • Maintain audit-ready transportation records and driver documentation
  • Conduct monthly driver compliance audits
  • Monitor driver qualification files, certifications, licensing, medical cards, and records of duty
  • Ensure transportation policies are consistently enforced and documented

Transportation Technology & Systems Management

  • Oversee transportation technology systems including telematics, routing software, vehicle access systems, and reporting tools
  • Ensure driver synchronization with GPS/telematics systems
  • Monitor fleet technology performance and operational reporting accuracy
  • Maintain operational integrity of transportation platforms and driver data

Safety, Risk & Incident Management

  • Monitor daily vehicle camera footage and driver safety performance
  • Conduct driver coaching and corrective action related to safety events
  • Investigate transportation incidents, rider complaints, and operational risks
  • Ensure proactive mitigation of fleet safety concerns
  • Maintain a culture of safety and accountability

Staffing & Workforce Coordination

  • Manage transportation staffing plans and shift coverage
  • Coordinate driver schedules and route assignments
  • Mitigate overtime exposure and staffing shortages
  • Ensure adequate transportation coverage to meet operational demand
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and development of transportation personnel

Operational Performance Management

Responsible for monitoring and improving transportation KPIs including:

  • On-time performance
  • Route completion rates
  • Rider utilization
  • No-show trends
  • Safety scores
  • Vehicle readiness
  • Labor efficiency
  • Service quality

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in transportation management, fleet management, or logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle safety regulations and maintenance standards.
  • Experience developing and auditing transportation processes and policies.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and lead a team.
  • Strong commitment to safety, efficiency, and compliance
