Job description

St. David's Medical Center is seeking an emergency medicine residency program director to lead the launch of its ACGME-accredited EM residency program beginning Summer 2027.
Located next to The University of Texas at Austin, this flagship hospital offers a rare opportunity to build and shape a residency program from the ground up while practicing in a high-acuity emergency department with strong specialty support.
The program will be part of the HCA Healthcare Graduate Medical Education network - one of the largest and most established physician training platforms in the country, providing the infrastructure and resources needed to support a successful and growing residency.
St. David's Medical Center also expanded its emergency care footprint with the opening of an affiliated emergency department in Manor, Texas in December 2025, creating additional clinical opportunities within the system.
The Role
This leadership position blends clinical practice, medical education, and residency program development. Key areas of focus include:
  • Program Leadership: oversee operational and academic aspects of the residency program
  • ACGME Oversight: ensure program accreditation, compliance, and curriculum development
  • Resident Education: lead clinical teaching, mentorship, and scholarly development
  • GME Engagement: participate in institutional GME initiatives and resident recruitment
  • Faculty Development: mentor faculty and support growth in clinical education
  • Dedicated administrative time and institutional GME support to successfully lead and develop the residency program

The Practice
  • 435-bed tertiary care hospital
  • 35-bed emergency department
  • ~44,000 annual ED visits
  • High-acuity patient population
  • Strong specialty support including cardiac and comprehensive stroke programs
  • Efficient workflows and collaborative physician leadership

What We Offer
  • W2 employed physician leadership position
  • Highly competitive compensation structure with productivity incentives
  • Monthly program director stipend plus sign-on bonus
  • Flexible physician shift options
  • Full comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and professional liability insurance with tail coverage

Qualifications
  • ABEM board certified in EM
  • Prior academic leadership and teaching experience
  • Strong understanding of ACGME accreditation and residency program administration
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and program development experience

Life in Austin
Austin offers an unmatched mix of innovation, culture, and outdoor lifestyle. From its iconic live music scene and award-winning restaurants to paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake and hiking the Barton Creek Greenbelt, the city provides endless opportunities to recharge outside the hospital. With its thriving economy, welcoming community, and vibrant energy, Austin is a place where physician leaders can build both an impactful career and an exceptional life.
