JOB PURPOSE:

The Assistant Dean of Experiential Learning provides visionary and strategic leadership for the development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of all experiential education programs within the College of Pharmacy. This inaugural position ensures compliance with ACPE Standards for IPPE and APPE, oversees domestic and international experiential rotations, and supports experiential learning for both campus-based and online PharmD pathways. The Assistant Dean collaborates closely with the Director of International Programs to coordinate global rotations for Howard student pharmacists and visiting students from partner institutions.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Provides direct supervision and administrative oversight of the Office of Experiential Learning, including experiential education directors, coordinators, compliance staff, and faculty with experiential teaching assignments.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts include faculty, department chairs, curriculum leaders, assessment staff, student affairs leadership, online program administrators, the Director of International Programs, and student pharmacists. External contacts include preceptors, site coordinators, domestic and international clinical partners, healthcare systems, global rotation affiliates, alumni partners, regulatory bodies, and national pharmacy education organizations (AACP, ACPE).

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all experiential education programs (IPPE and APPE).

Ensure full compliance with ACPE accreditation standards related to experiential learning.

Develop and maintain high-quality experiential training sites across diverse pharmacy practice settings.

Oversee experiential placement and support models for both campus-based and online PharmD students.

Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and evaluation of preceptors.

Establish comprehensive preceptor development programs and recognition initiatives.

Implement quality assurance systems for site monitoring and continuous improvement.

Collaborate with faculty and curriculum committees to integrate experiential learning across the curriculum.

Serve as primary liaison with domestic experiential partners and healthcare organizations.

Oversee the experiential component of international rotations in collaboration with the Director of International Programs.

Ensure international rotations meet College policies, accreditation standards, and host-site requirements.

Utilize data-driven outcomes assessment to strengthen experiential learning effectiveness.

Support scholarship and innovation in experiential education and practice transformation.

Participate in College leadership initiatives, strategic planning, and advancement of the College mission.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

PharmD degree from an ACPE-accredited institution; active pharmacist licensure or eligibility; minimum of five years experience in pharmacy practice or experiential education leadership; demonstrated expertise with IPPE/APPE administration; knowledge of accreditation and experiential compliance expectations.
