Job Description Chaplain Resident. Full Time, First Shift The Chaplain Resident will serve as a member of the healthcare team, contributing to holistic, patient- and family-centered care with an understanding of spiritual perspectives and their impact on coping, medical decision-making, and health outcomes. As a supervised, learning member of the Spiritual Care team, the Chaplain Resident will be sensitive to a variety of faiths and religious practices to ensure that competent, religiously appropriate Spiritual Care is provided.

The Chaplain Resident will also develop learning goals consistent with the outcomes of Level I and Level II CPE, as outlined in the ACPE Standards. This is a hybrid position in which the Resident will complete clinical hours at UCMC and complete CPE education at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, which is ACPE-accredited. https://acpe.edu/career/uc-health-cincinnati Responsibilities Direct Patient Support / On-Call: Work with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, providing information on how religion and spirituality impact coping, decision-making, and health outcomes

Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff in the Palliative Care setting. Engage in active listening and an empathetic presence to facilitate deep conversations about life, meaning, and values. Facilitate rituals, prayers, and religious or spiritual practices based on individual preferences and beliefs.

Participating in and support planning of Memorial programs involving patients, families, staff, and the community. Staff Care: Provide Spiritual Care to clinical caregivers in assigned areas of responsibility. Support restorative measures for clinical caregivers and staff members through rounding, active listening, and programmatic support.

Education, Development, and Program Participation: Observe and consult with an assigned mentor/ preceptor as needed throughout the Residency. Construct learning goals consistent with the outcomes of Level I and Level II CPE as stated in ACPE standards. Learning goals will be developed with feedback from CPE educators, peers, and growing self-awareness.

Prepare for, attend, and participate in individual and group supervision for all aspects of the CPE program, including individual supervision sessions, verbatim sessions, Interpersonal Relations Group sessions, didactic sessions, and other curricular items outlined in the syllabus for each CPE unit. Documentation, Compliance, and Ethical Practice: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of Spiritual Care interventions and assessments in patient records. Adhere to ethical guidelines and standards of practice for Chaplains, respecting confidentiality and privacy.

Stay informed about relevant legal and ethical considerations related to end-of-life care and advance care planning. Comply with UC Health safety and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining adherence to all hospital regulatory and safety requirements Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Master's degree required - Master of Divinity or an equivalent graduate-level theological degree from a college, university, or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Completion of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in an ACPE-accredited program.

Ordained, currently endorsed, or recognized as a religious or spiritual leader in good standing within a specific faith tradition. Enrollment in an affiliated Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program required.
