What does an accounting software developer do?

An Accounting Software Developer designs, builds, and maintains software applications that help individuals and businesses manage their financial data and accounting processes. Their work involves understanding accounting principles and requirements to create tools for tasks like invoicing, payroll, expense tracking, and financial reporting. They often collaborate with accountants and end-users to ensure the software is user-friendly, secure, and compliant with financial regulations. These developers may work for software companies, accounting firms, or as independent consultants.

What does an accounting software developer do?

Accounting software developers help create and support applications used for accounting purposes. In this role, you may ensure the software correctly manages each account and transaction, verify that the system can adequately handle any unusual entries that accountants need to make, and run reports to evaluate the current financial situation of your clients. Accounting software developers usually work in teams; because much of the data entered into the system concerns monetary transactions, the primary function of the software focuses on accurate calculations. Software precision and avoiding bugs is even more critical than in other types of programs because of the serious impact that errors could have on customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an accounting software developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Accounting Software Developer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages (such as Java, C#, or Python), a solid understanding of accounting principles, and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with accounting software platforms (like QuickBooks or SAP), database systems, and version control tools is typically required, along with knowledge of industry-standard APIs. Excellent problem-solving, communication skills, and attention to detail help developers collaborate with stakeholders and create user-friendly, reliable software. These competencies ensure the creation of effective, compliant, and high-quality accounting solutions that meet business needs.

What are some common challenges accounting software developers face when integrating new features with existing financial systems?

Accounting Software Developers often encounter challenges when integrating new features, such as ensuring compatibility with legacy financial systems and maintaining data integrity across different modules. They must carefully manage version control, adhere to strict security protocols, and thoroughly test to prevent disruptions to critical accounting processes. Collaboration with finance professionals and IT teams is vital to understand business requirements and regulatory compliance, making strong communication skills important for success in this role.

Job description

We are seeking a mid-level Software & Automation Engineer to join a small technology team and work hands-on across in-house ERP systems, data pipelines, automation, and AI tooling.

This is an individual contributor role, not a management position. You will work closely with an existing engineer and take ownership of projects from end to end in a bilingual Korean–English corporate environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain services and APIs for internal ERP and business systems using TypeScript/Node.js and Python

  • Develop and maintain modern front-end applications using React/TypeScript

  • Build and improve data pipelines and reporting solutions using technologies such as BigQuery, Dataform, and Data Studio

  • Investigate and resolve production issues involving ERP systems, databases, integrations, and data

  • Improve system reliability, performance, and data integrity

  • Build internal automation and tools to streamline Sales, SCM, Accounting, and Operations workflows

  • Develop AI-enabled automation, including AI agents and AI-assisted development tools

  • Work directly with business users to understand requirements and turn them into practical software solutions

  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in Korean and English

You may work on a full-stack feature one day, automate a business workflow the next, troubleshoot an ERP issue, develop an AI tool, or help a colleague resolve a technical problem.

The ideal candidate is comfortable wearing multiple hats, working independently, and using AI tools to increase productivity.

This may not be the right fit for someone who prefers working within a narrowly defined technical specialty or a highly structured environment with limited ownership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • 4–5 years of professional software engineering experience

  • Strong backend development skills with TypeScript/Node.js and Python, or a comparable technology stack

  • Experience with API design and data modeling

  • Full-stack development experience, including React/TypeScript; Next.js is a plus

  • Strong SQL and relational database experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar technologies

  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools

  • Genuine interest in AI agents, automation, and AI-assisted software development

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects from start to finish

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Cloud experience; GCP preferred, with AWS or Azure also considered

  • Fluent Korean and English, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience extending or maintaining existing systems, not only developing greenfield applications

  • Experience with ERP or other core business systems

  • Experience with system modernization, migration, or integration projects

  • Familiarity with BigQuery, Dataform, and Data Studio

  • Experience with Google Apps Script or workflow automation

  • Industry experience in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, supply chain, or related industries

  • GCP, AWS, or other relevant cloud certifications

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance

  • Paid Vacation, Sick Days, and Holidays

  • Performance Bonuses

  • Educational Training Reimbursement

  • Employee Referral Incentives

  • Daily Lunch Allowance

  • Team Lunches & Dinners

  • Fitness Membership Reimbursement

  • Employee Birthday Gifts

  • Recognition & Service Year Awards
