Accounting Manager

About the Role

A private equity-backed, multi-location services organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its growing finance team. This role sits at the intersection of accounting operations, financial reporting, process improvement, and leadership development.

Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will play a key role in month-end close, financial reporting, audit support, and accounting process optimization. The ideal candidate is technically strong, enjoys solving problems, and is motivated by building efficient processes while helping develop others on the team.


This is a highly visible opportunity with long-term growth potential into broader controllership responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Month-End Close

  • Lead portions of the monthly close process across multiple cost centers and business units
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts within the ERP system
  • Partner with operations, sales, and other functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and expense recognition
  • Review and solve complex accounting issues across the organization


Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Produce monthly P&L reporting packages across a large multi-location operating environment
  • Perform variance analysis and provide insights to leadership on operational performance
  • Partner with FP&A to support forecasting and budgeting activities
  • Assist in preparing executive and board-level reporting packages


Audit, Compliance & Tax Support

  • Serve as a key contact for external auditors and assist with audit preparation
  • Prepare workpapers and supporting documentation for audits and tax compliance activities
  • Support sales tax, business licensing, and other regulatory compliance initiatives
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting controls and documentation


Vendor & Operational Accounting

  • Support vendor reconciliation and resolution of complex accounting issues
  • Review contract-related accounting matters and cost allocation methodologies
  • Assist with accounting treatment related to commissions, operational costs, and vendor relationships


Systems & Process Improvement

  • Help administer and optimize accounting systems, workflows, and reporting tools
  • Lead or support automation initiatives, including AI-assisted accounting processes and reporting improvements
  • Partner with technology and operations teams on system implementations, integrations, and process enhancements
  • Improve accounting procedures, standard operating procedures, and internal controls


Leadership & Team Development

  • Act as a resource and mentor to staff and senior accountants
  • Review work product, provide guidance, and support team development
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, month-end close, and financial reporting
  • Experience supporting external audits
  • Experience leading complex accounting processes and managing competing priorities
  • Proficiency with ERP systems such as NetSuite or similar mid-market platforms
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills


Preferred

  • CPA or active CPA candidate
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, storage, distribution, or multi-location service organizations
  • Experience with AI, automation, or process improvement initiatives
  • Experience with vendor reconciliations and contract-based billing environments
  • Experience supporting growing, private equity-backed organizations
