Fire-Dex is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Payroll Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring payroll-related transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled, and reported while partnering closely with Human Resources, Operations, and external vendors.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in accuracy, organization, and continuous improvement. You'll play a critical role in supporting payroll operations and maintaining the integrity of our financial records.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Prepare, review, and post payroll-related journal entries.
  • Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, taxes, benefits, deductions, and accruals.
  • Review payroll data and reports to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Validate payroll files, deductions, tax information, and related reporting.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes related to payroll accounting.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Partner with Human Resources, Operations, and third-party providers to address payroll questions and ensure data accuracy.
  • Assist with payroll tax, benefit, retirement plan, garnishment, and deduction reconciliations.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll-related documentation and reports.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiencies.
  • Handle sensitive employee and payroll information with the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in payroll accounting, accounting, payroll administration, or a related finance role.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, payroll taxes, deductions, accruals, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Experience with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and ERP/accounting software preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage confidential information professionally and discreetly.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
