Requirements

Accounting Operations Specialist: This Is Where You Come In

We're looking for an Accounting Operations Specialist to join our Accounting team as a versatile, cross-trained professional who provides operational support across multiple accounting functions. Rather than being limited to one area, you'll rotate through Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Job Cost/Project Accounting, General Ledger, and other accounting functions as business needs evolve.

As MacDonald-Miller transitions to a new ERP system, you'll play an active role in supporting the accounting team throughout the implementation. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across every major accounting discipline while helping shape the future of our accounting operations.

Unlike traditional accounting roles that focus on a single specialty, this position offers exposure to the entire accounting lifecycle - from AP and AR to job costing, general ledger, fixed assets, and financial reporting - all within a dynamic commercial construction environment. You'll become a trusted resource who helps ensure business continuity during peak workloads, team absences, special projects, and organizational change, while maintaining compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Top 5 Ways You'll Make an Impact
  • Support multiple accounting functions by rotating through Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Project Accounting, General Ledger, and Fixed Assets while ensuring continuity across the department.
  • Maintain accurate financial records by processing invoices, customer payments, journal entries, reconciliations, and other accounting transactions with a high level of accuracy and timeliness.
  • Partner with project teams by supporting job costing, customer billing, project accounting, WIP reporting, and cost tracking to help drive successful project outcomes.
  • Contribute to our ERP transformation by learning new systems, adapting to evolving processes, and helping the accounting team successfully navigate our enterprise system implementation.
  • Drive operational excellence by identifying process improvements, collaborating across departments, and providing dependable support wherever it's needed most.
Your Background: What Kind of Person Will Thrive in This Role?

You bring:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience with exposure to multiple accounting functions.
  • Construction or mechanical contracting industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and data reconciliation.
  • The ability to quickly learn new accounting systems and adapt to changing business processes.
Everyone Who Works With You Describes You As...
  • A detail-oriented professional who consistently delivers accurate, high-quality work.
  • Organized, adaptable, and able to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A collaborative team player who builds strong relationships across Accounting, Operations, and Project Management.
  • A dependable, proactive problem solver who takes ownership and follows through.
  • Someone who communicates clearly and contributes positively to the team's success.
You're Motivated By...
  • Building expertise across the full accounting cycle rather than specializing in just one area.
  • Learning new systems, embracing change, and supporting continuous process improvement.
  • Solving problems and helping teams succeed through collaboration and operational excellence.
  • Working in a dynamic environment where every day brings new challenges and learning opportunities.
  • Growing your accounting career while making a meaningful impact on the business.
