Job description

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Sr. Associate, Alternative Assets. About the role The Alternative Assets Senior Associate will assist in leading investments including the sourcing, modeling, evaluation, legal negotiation, execution and monitoring of alternative assets for SIM's clients, and in particular, its affiliated life insurance clients.

The successful candidate will assist in executing this strategy with a particular emphasis on the unique needs and/or constraints of each corresponding client portfolio, and in a way that balances sometimes competing objectives such as risk, long-term return, capital and/or tax efficiency, and other factors. The investable universe is expected to include externally managed positions, such as private equity, private credit, secondaries, affordable housing tax credit funds, CLO equity, co-investments, and other potential areas as identified by the Head of Alternative Assets and approved internally. The alternatives team will coordinate due diligence with the internal investment committee and other members of the SIM front office with expertise in relevant areas, as applicable.

Close collaboration with key stakeholders, accounting, legal, operations, compliance, and reporting at SIM and Symetra Life will also be critical to ensure the timely delivery of, results, and benchmarking that meet portfolio manager and client requirements. This is a hybrid work role based in Farmington Connecticut (Mandatory 2 days in office). Conduct manager due diligence, coordinating with other areas of SIM as appropriate. Develop/expand relationships with sourcing partners. Present recommendations internally.

Collaborate with legal and compliance teams on documentation. Conduct ongoing reporting and surveillance of investments and external managers. Monitor appropriate analyses for holdings.

Maintain and improve repeatable processes for quantifying and reporting results as needed. Keep apprised of emerging industry trends and themes in alternative asset management and perform ad-hoc research projects as needed. Check out our Symetra Benefits Overview Compensation Salary Range: $145,900 - $197,400 plus eligibility for annual bonus program Who you are BS degree in economics, finance, accounting, mathematics, or other suitable field with appropriate quantitative skills / background.

5+ years of experience in a front office role in a bank, insurance company, pension fund, or other asset management firm. 5+ years of experience in alternative asset management, with a willingness to take on increasing responsibilities. An understanding of the insurance company framework, including the generation of exposure to alternative investments in a capital efficient manner, is helpful.

Capital market and the fundamentals of alternative assets understanding. The fundamentals of various sub-sectors within private equity and private credit as well as other; traditional and emerging alternative asset spaces. Alternative asset portfolio construction and monitoring.

Experience in evaluating and reporting on relationships with a range of alternative managers/strategies. A "get it done" work ethic that supports the completion of tasks within specified timeframes, and the ability to adjust to shifting priorities as business conditions warrant, understanding that the work requirements of the position will sometimes embed inflexible deadlines. The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a small team environment and communicate ideas effectively.
