Director, Accounting
Overview
• The position will be part of the Controller's group within Mastercard's North America ("NA") Finance team, reporting to the NA Regional Controller.
• The NA Controllers Group is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the US GAAP financials in partnership with the GBSC (Global Business Service Center), as well as providing support to the business teams across a number of areas including accounting and internal controls.
• The role will coordinate monthly close with the GBSC and review deliverables, including analysis of revenue; lead quarterly US GAAP reporting and disclosure requirements; provide advice for revenue and billing questions; oversee the revenue waiver and claims process; and, support revenue assurance initiatives and activities across the U.S. and Canada.
• Other job responsibilities will include tasks to support the NA Region's accounting and reporting in accordance with Corporate policies and US GAAP and SEC requirements, including technical accounting advice and decisions related to revenue and expenses.
• Will also support the region's SOX controls, internal control monitoring and risk management initiatives
• Activities also include preparing financial reports; conducting financial analyses; and making recommendations to senior management
• The candidate will lead 2 staff direct reports and will be responsible for the team's coaching and development, conduct goal setting and performance appraisal processes
Role
• Works closely with GBSC to ensure that books are closed in line with US GAAP and Mastercard accounting policies as well as providing all necessary disclosures and other quarterly reporting requirements to the corporate controllers' team as required.
• Analyze revenue and provide analysis and detail during month-end close to assist NAM Finance to ensure accurate forecast.
• Provide support and guidance to other groups within Mastercard regarding deal structures, billing set-up and implementation.
• Oversees revenue waiver and claims process - works closely with account teams, product teams, planners, O&T and the GBSC to ensure waivers and claims are properly approved and processed.
• Guides financial decisions related to business transactions by providing accounting advice and by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures. Consults with Corporate Accounting as appropriate.
• Partners with global revenue assurance team to drive execution of revenue assurance initiatives and activities across the U.S. and Canada.
• Serves as a first point of escalation for compliance issues and oversees compliance activities (e.g. SOX and ORM). Implements initiatives to strengthen existing controls and optimize business processes. May highlight potential exposures for communication to leadership.
• Drive process efficiencies and risk mitigation - Works with GBSC and the business to develop efficient solutions to improve financial accounting, reporting and control as well as assist in business monitoring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
• Active CPA or equivalent qualification
• Strong revenue recognition and technical accounting experience under US GAAP
• Strong knowledge of Internal Controls concepts and Sarbanes Oxley regulations
• High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills, with thorough knowledge of the card payments industry preferred
• Proficiency with accounting & finance systems/software applications
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including senior level business and corporate partnering.
