The New Hampshire Lottery and Gaming Commission is seeking a full-time Accountant I. This position plays an important role in supporting the Commission's financial operations through accurate accounting practices, financial reconciliations, and internal control activities.
Responsibilities include performing daily accounting functions, balancing and reconciling deferred revenue, auditing revolving prize funds, completing bank reconciliations, preparing and transmitting Positive Pay files, and conducting Internal Control System (ICS) financial verification activities, including online testing and validation of new Lottery games.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Operates, maintains, and balances the Internal Control System (ICS) to verify the accuracy of financial transactions for all Lottery games, including sales, cash receipts, cancellations, winners, liabilities, and promotional transactions. Works with NHICS vendors to resolve discrepancies, perform testing for new games and system enhancements, and ensure quality control and compliance with Multi-State Lottery (MUSL) rules, regulations, and agency procedures.
  • Verifies hot back up site is running and available for emergency use at any given time.
  • Audits, and deposits Lottery funds received through agency operations and courier services, records financial transactions in the State's integrated financial system (NH FIRST), as required by statute, and verifies the accuracy of funds received from customers and retailers for Lottery products.
  • Creates and performs reconciliations in accordance with the Governmental Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and NH Lottery procedures for a variety of complex accounts, including deferred revenue, one million dollar prize accounts, income ledger, daily positive pays, TD Bank reconciliations, merchant card reconciliations and general ledger accounts as needed.
  • Reviews and analyzes accounts receivable (A/R) reports for accuracy, verifies batch control totals and system uploads, and prepares and processes MS add-ins into the State's integrated financial system.
  • Reconciles daily prize checks issued to flat files prepared for bank upload to ensure the accuracy of payment information and support the prevention of fraudulent activity.
  • Cross-trains with other accounting roles to support the preparation and processing of financial entries for posting to the General Ledger, and transferring funds annually into State Treasurer's account.
