Job description

Senior Accountant

Location: Remote

Position Overview

Addison Group is representing an energy infrastructure and engineering firm with the recruitment of a Senior Accountant to join a growing finance team. This role will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will bring government accounting skills, experience working in a multi-department environment, and a solid understanding of government funding compliance, including direct and indirect cost accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of direct and indirect cost accounting methodologies to ensure proper classification and allocation of expenses.
  • Review and monitor expenditures to identify allowable and unallowable costs in accordance with federal regulations, grant agreements, and contract requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal travel regulations and policies, including the evaluation of travel-related expenses for allowability and proper documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of grant and contract financial reports, billings, and cost reimbursement submissions.
  • Support indirect cost rate calculations, cost allocations, and related reconciliations.
  • Partner with program managers and department leaders to ensure compliance with federal government grant and contract requirements.
  • Maintain documentation supporting grant and contract expenditures and compliance activities.

  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience working with direct and indirect costs, including the identification and treatment of allowable and unallowable expenses.
  • Experience supporting federal government grants and/or government contracts is required.
  • Knowledge of federal cost principles and compliance requirements, including travel compliance and expense allowability.
  • Advanced Excel and Concur required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across departments.

Requires successful completion of a background check and drug screening prior to employment.

This position offers a salary range of $130,000 to $140,000 base dependent on experience.

Annual bonus target. Medical, dental, vision, 401K match, holiday pay and PTO.
