Job description


We’re seeking a talented, detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist I to join our team. This position is remote. Reporting to the Accounts Payable Team Lead this role will be responsible for processing state surplus lines tax filings, reports, and payments, maintaining accurate financial records, resolving client credits and refunds, and supporting compliance with state regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete state surplus lines tax filings, reports, and payments accurately and in a timely manner
  • Reconcile client invoices, billing reports, and related financial records
  • Research and resolve client credits, refunds, and payment discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to tax filings and accounting transactions
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of accounting processes and standard operating procedures
  • Provide customer service and support to clients, state agencies, and internal teams regarding filing and payment-related inquiries
  • Maintain working knowledge of state surplus lines laws, tax filing requirements, and compliance regulations
  • Assist with reporting and reconciliation activities to ensure data accuracy and completeness
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Associate degree in accounting or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience in the surplus lines or insurance industry preferred
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
  • Understanding of confidentiality requirements related to financial information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and Adobe applications
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting software preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
