Job Overview
Madison Approach Staffing is recruiting for a Senior Accountant for our client's Finance department. Our client is a large healthcare organization seeking an experienced accounting professional to maintain books and records in accordance with GAAP, prepare financial statements, manage month-end close processes, and serve as liaison with external auditors. The ideal candidate has strong financial analysis skills, advanced Excel proficiency, and ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision. This is a 3-6 month temporary assignment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review monthly and annual financial statements; participate in month-end close review meetings
  • Maintain general ledger and balance sheet audit worksheets
  • Book monthly journal entries including accruals, prepaid analysis, and non-routine entries
  • Handle internal and external reporting including financial surveys, IRS forms (990, 1120, CHAR500), pools, and assessments
  • Act as liaison with external audit firms for year-end audits, pension audits, A-133 grant audits, and compliance filings
  • Analyze monthly expense and FTE budget variances; assist with annual budget preparation
  • Monitor capital leases and debt obligations; reconcile long-term and short-term liability accounts
  • Prepare monthly schedules of Property, Plant & Equipment acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation calculations
  • Reconcile daily cash receipts/disbursements to General Ledger and bank support
  • Maintain key data, tables, and interfaces for financial information systems
  • Communicate effectively with hospital departments on Finance-related issues
Required Skills & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • Experience: 3-5 years accounting experience; healthcare setting highly preferred
  • GAAP Knowledge: Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Advanced Excel: Complex Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and advanced formulas (required)
  • Technology: Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Power BI
  • Financial Analysis: Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial data
  • Organization: Excellent organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Audit Experience: Experience serving as liaison with external auditors
