Job description

Austin Industries is one of the nation's largest, most diversified U.S.-based construction companies. Here at Austin Industries, we have an internal audit internship program that will give you exposure to many aspects of the construction industry. Through collaboration with the accounting teams at various operating divisions under our umbrella, our intern will have hands on experience assisting with ongoing audits and perform risk-based testing to review internal controls and management assertions. This is a paid 12 weeks full-time internship program that will start on Monday, May 17, 2027 and run through Friday, August 6, 2027. Our intern will report to our corporate headquarters located in Dallas, TX (Uptown area). Our intern will also participate in various social and volunteer events with fellow employee-owners and have the great opportunity to visit an active project site. Intern Learning Opportunities:
  • Gain hands-on experience supporting internal audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews across business operations.
  • Learn how internal controls help safeguard company assets, improve processes, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with data analysis, audit testing, documentation review, and reporting activities.
  • Collaborate with finance, operations, and business leaders to understand how audit supports organizational objectives.
  • Receive mentorship from experienced audit professionals while exploring career paths in internal audit, accounting, risk management, and corporate governance.

Internal Audit Intern Duties:
  • Assist with complex audits of major construction and maintenance projects throughout the organization to assess effectiveness of management's processes and compliance with established policy
  • Assigned audit program sections for completion
  • Develop workpapers and logically display detailed testing attributes
  • Perform interviews, document interview results, update workpapers and audit program steps, and conclude on control assessments
  • Meet with project personnel at job sites to complete assigned work. Tour job sites and analyze construction performance
  • Travel approximately 10%

Education and Experience:
  • Must be an active junior or senior college student working toward a bachelor's degree in one of these fields with a concentration in auditing: Accounting or Finance
  • Targeted graduation date between August 2027 and December 2028
  • Must be able to work up to 40 hours per week
  • Must be able to commute onsite to assigned location
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to think analytically, present ideas professionally, and work in project teams

Our internal audit intern is assigned a supervisor who is a professional with both expertise and educational background in the field of accounting and internal audit. They can expect a preliminary meeting with their supervisor to discuss the goals, expectations, and desired outcomes of the internship. Employee-owners participating in an internship will be reviewed upon the completion of their internship. This review should be used as a tool to communicate the successes and learning outcomes of the internship. The supervisor will also complete any necessary paperwork that must be provided to the intern's school or university.
Individuals hired as interns will be classified as Temporary employee-owners as defined in Policy A-5. Temporary employee-owners are not eligible for vacation pay, holiday pay or any of the other benefits listed in Policy A-5.
Temporary employee-owners are expected to adhere to the same policies and procedures as regular, full-time employee-owners.
Employee-owners that are performing an internship are expected to work a regularly-scheduled workweek of 40 hours or more (overtime will be paid for any hours in excess of 40 at a rate one and one-half times the employee-owner's regular rate).
