Job description

Summary/Objective:
The Cost Accountant is responsible for determining, recording, and reporting unit cost factors, provide management with cost and comparative reports along with analyzing actual manufacturing costs and prepare reports comparing standard to actual costs; analyze changes in raw materials pricing and manufacturing overhead for effects on production costs. The role functions as a business support person to the plant and financial management team.
Essential Functions:
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly accounting close and reporting requirements in compliance with GAAP, including reporting results and analyzing variances for multiple locations.
  •  Ensure that standard costs and all accounting entries are processed timely, accurately, and meet the cost improvement objectives set by Operations.
  • Review standard costs for inaccuracies and complete margin reviews.
  • Develop, maintain, and update standard costs and assist with standard cost roll on an annual basis. 
  • Understand, calculate, and update labor and overhead rates.
  • Understand the forming of Bills of Materials as related to finished goods as entered in the accounting software. 
  • Analyze actual labor, material and overhead cost against Standard/Budget and report variances.
  • Prepare cost estimates of new or special products for establishing selling prices and production forecasts. 
  •  Analyze and reconcile the inventory on hand reports to the general ledger and propose journal entries as well as provide monthly schedules showing the same.
  • Analyze and prepare inventory analysis to determine obsolescence and slow-moving inventory reserve.
  • Function as the Department lead on all physical inventories and prepares variance reporting by facility.
  • Assist with monitoring and continuous improvement in internal controls and standard work procedures for appropriate financial operations. 
  • Supports special projects as requested.

The employee will generally be housed in a climate controlled, well-lit environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Primarily a desk job, will spend time in the warehouse as needed for inventory or special projects.
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00, occasional late nights and weekend hours during our busier times.
 
Travel:
Occasional travel required to other facilities across the U.S to support projects.
 
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 3–5 years’ Cost Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in automating and improving processes to gain efficiency, improve accuracy and produce high quality work is required.
  •  Must have a strong cost system and inventory controls background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles.
  • Strong PC skills and the ability to navigate within the Corsicana Mattress systems are critical, including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
