Accounts Payable Manager
Paths is a full-scale, vertically integrated affordable housing developer, builder, and operator. Since 2004, Paths creates and preserves high-quality affordable housing across the U.S. that enhances communities and helps residents build better lives. With over 16,000 units across 13 states under management and more than 600 employees, Paths manages a suite of capabilities spanning the entire property life-cycle, including: development, construction, property management, maintenance, and security.

Summary/Objective: The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely payment of vendors for services and products rendered across the portfolio. This position oversees invoice processing, vendor statement reconciliations, credit card audits, payment distribution, and vendor communications. The role also manages the company's third-party accounting service provider, including conducting weekly invoice review meetings and resolving outstanding items. Reporting to the Controller, the Accounts Payable Manager supervises a team of three Accounts Payable Specialists and helps maintain efficient accounts payable operations.

Classification: Exempt (not eligible for overtime)
Location: New York, NY 10022

Essential Function/Responsibilities: duties include but are not limited to the following

  • Monitor accounts payable activity for the entire portfolio and coordinate with staff.
  • Process weekly payments of approved invoices as selected by management.
  • Post monthly, weekly, and quarterly escrows, management fees, and accounting fees.
  • Oversee and manage the duties and responsibilities of Accounts Payable Specialists.
  • Manage the relationship with the company's third-party accounting service provider, including conducting weekly meetings to review invoices, monitor workflow progress, resolve outstanding items, and ensure timely and accurate invoice processing.
  • Oversee the proper tracking and timely payment of utility invoices.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure utility invoices for accounts that should be in tenants' names have been transferred accordingly and that any charges requiring reimbursement have been communicated to the Accounts Receivable team.
  • Interact with vendors and management personnel as needed to ensure all vendor issues are handled effectively and professionally.
  • Set up new vendors and ensure all required tax and insurance documentation has been received and maintained.
  • Enter, post, process online payments, and prepare manual checks as needed.
  • Oversee annual 1099 reporting and W-9 collection and maintain compliance with applicable IRS requirements.
  • Prepare reports, analyze accounts payable trends, and identify opportunities to improve processes and controls.
  • Assist with audits and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor?s Degree, preferable if in Finance, Mathematics, Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as an Accounts Payable Manager.
  • Experience managing outsourced or third-party accounting teams and coordinating invoice processing workflows is strongly preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications - Word and Excel.
  • Real Estate accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage a staff of 5.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently.
  • Ability to listen, communicate (written and verbal), and follow-up effectively with all levels within the organization and vendors.
  • Ability to perform at high levels in a fast paced, ever-changing work environment.
  • Yardi software experience a plus.


Salary Range: $110,000 - $120,000
