Job description

Purpose: The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end closing process, and accounting team while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency across all financial activities. This role serves as the bridge between daily accounting execution and strategic financial planning, providing leadership over payables, receivables, inventory accounting, financial statement preparation, and accounting process improvements. Will partner closely with the CFO to support budgeting, forecasting, tax compliance, financial analysis, and organizational growth initiatives.


Primary Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations Leadership

  • Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and related accounting functions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Monitor accounting processes and identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
  • Manage and develop the accounting team while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation process.
  • Prepare and analyze financial results, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities that affect overall business performance..
  • Deliver financial reporting packages and performance analysis to executive leadership.
  • Ensure financial reporting accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards.

Month-End & Year-End Close

  • Responsible for the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure timely reconciliations of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Review journal entries, accruals, and support documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in close timelines and reporting accuracy.

Revenue Recognition & Sales Channel Accounting

  • Oversee revenue recognition processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Monitor financial activity across multiple sales channels.
  • Evaluate channel profitability and provide insights to leadership.
  • Support new business initiatives by designing appropriate accounting and transaction workflows.

Systems & Financial Process Improvements

  • Key member in designing and implementing accounting transaction flows for new systems, integrations, and business initiatives.
  • Support ERP, 3PL, e-commerce, and sales channel integrations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure financial data integrity across systems.
  • Lead accounting process improvement projects that enhance scalability and efficiency.

Budgeting & Forecasting Support

  • Partner with the CFO on annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes.
  • Provide financial analysis and departmental reporting to support planning initiatives.
  • Assist business leaders in understanding financial performance and budget variances.
  • Support development of financial models and management reporting.

Inventory Accounting & Cost Management

  • Oversee inventory accounting and valuation processes.
  • Support physical inventory counts and year-end inventory observations.
  • Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence estimates, and inventory accuracy.
  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to improve inventory controls and reporting.
  • Analyze inventory performance and working capital impacts.

Tax, Audit & Compliance

  • Support external CPA relationships and financial audits.
  • Assist with federal and multi-state tax compliance activities.
  • Coordinate annual financial reviews, tax filings, inventory observations, and supporting documentation.
  • Support tax credit initiatives including R&D and Qualified Facility Tax Credits.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting regulations and company policies.

Minimum Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting teams.
  • Experience in manufacturing, inventory-based consumer products, or distribution environments strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting multi-state operations is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with ERP systems and accounting software.
  • Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting and cost accounting principles.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Ability to manage complex reconciliations and financial reporting processes.
