What is an account executive in tech?

An Account Executive in tech is a sales professional responsible for managing relationships with clients and driving sales of technology products or services. They work to understand the unique needs of each client, present solutions, negotiate contracts, and ensure customer satisfaction. Their role often involves collaborating closely with technical teams and other departments to deliver tailored solutions. Account Executives typically focus on building long-term relationships and meeting or exceeding sales targets within their assigned territory or customer base.

How does an account executive in tech typically collaborate with other teams to drive client success?

Account Executives in the tech sector frequently work cross-functionally, collaborating with sales engineers, customer success managers, and product teams to tailor solutions that fit client needs. They often serve as the main point of contact for clients, coordinating internal resources to address technical questions, manage onboarding, and resolve issues promptly. This collaborative approach ensures clients receive both the strategic guidance and technical support necessary for long-term satisfaction and retention. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for balancing these interactions and aligning everyone toward common goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an account executive in tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Account Executive in Tech, you need strong sales acumen, deep understanding of technology solutions, and a track record in business development, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with CRM platforms (like Salesforce), sales automation tools, and basic technical product knowledge are typically required. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills help you stand out in this client-facing role. These skills are vital for effectively identifying client needs, closing deals, and driving revenue growth in a competitive technology market.

Job description

Account Executive – Print, Copier & AV Solutions

Company: CCS Presentation Systems
Department: Sales
Reports To: Vice President, Sales
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

CCS Presentation Systems is seeking a motivated, results-driven Account Executive to join our growing sales team. CCS is an established audio visual (AV) integration company providing technology solutions to businesses, educational institutions, government organizations, and other commercial customers.

As part of our continued expansion, CCS has added the Epson line of business printers and copiers to our portfolio. The Account Executive will be responsible for developing new business by identifying organizations that have a need for printers, copiers, and related print solutions, and selling or leasing equipment and services.

This is a new-business development and outside sales position. The successful candidate will spend significant time prospecting, making outbound phone calls, conducting in-person visits, identifying decision-makers, developing relationships, and creating opportunities.

An important advantage of this position is the opportunity to identify AV technology opportunities within the same customer base. As an Account Executive develops relationships with customers, they will have the ability to introduce CCS’s broader portfolio of AV solutions, including meeting room technology, video conferencing, digital signage, displays, audio systems, control systems, and other integrated technology solutions.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated sales professional who enjoys prospecting, opening new accounts, building relationships, and closing business.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Development

·      Prospect for new customers through outbound phone calls, email, networking, referrals, and in-person visits.

·      Identify businesses and organizations with existing or upcoming printer and copier needs.

·      Develop and maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified prospects.

·      Research organizations to identify key decision-makers and purchasing influencers.

·      Conduct cold calls and cold visits to generate new business opportunities.

·      Schedule and conduct customer meetings and presentations.

·      Assess customer requirements and recommend appropriate print/copy solutions.

·      Prepare proposals, quotes, and presentations.

·      Sell and lease Epson printers, copiers, and related products and services.

·      Negotiate pricing and terms within established company guidelines.

·      Manage the sales process from initial prospecting through contract execution and installation.

·      Meet or exceed established sales quotas and activity goals.

AV Business Development

·      Identify opportunities for AV solutions within existing and prospective print/copy customers.

·      Ask discovery questions to uncover customer technology initiatives, facility projects, renovations, and other potential AV requirements.

·      Recognize opportunities involving conference rooms, meeting spaces, video conferencing, digital signage, displays, audio systems, control systems, and other AV technologies.

·      Coordinate with CCS AV sales and engineering teams to develop solutions for qualified opportunities.

·      Introduce customers to CCS’s broader technology capabilities and create cross-selling opportunities.

·      Maintain ownership of the customer relationship throughout the sales process.

Account Management & Customer Relationships

·      Develop long-term relationships with customers and become a trusted technology resource.

·      Conduct regular customer visits to identify changing needs and future opportunities.

·      Maintain accurate customer and prospect information in the company’s CRM system.

·      Follow up consistently on proposals, quotes, and open opportunities.

·      Work closely with operations, service, engineering, and installation teams to ensure a positive customer experience.

·      Pursue referrals and additional business opportunities within existing accounts.

Required Qualifications

·      Prior B2B sales experience required.

·      Demonstrated ability to prospect for and develop new business.

·      Comfortable making cold calls and conducting face-to-face prospecting.

·      Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.

·      Ability to identify customer needs and translate those needs into business solutions.

·      Self-motivated and capable of working independently.

·      Strong organizational and time-management skills.

·      Professional demeanor and ability to build relationships with customers at multiple levels.

·      Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

·      Ability to use CRM systems, Microsoft Office, email, and other standard business technology.

Preferred Qualifications

·      Four-year college degree preferred.

·      Experience selling copiers, printers, managed print services, office technology, or related products.

·      Experience in AV, technology, telecommunications, IT, office equipment, or other B2B technology sales.

·      Existing relationships with local businesses, commercial organizations, education, healthcare, government, or other institutional customers.

·      Experience selling both capital equipment and leasing solutions.

·      Experience working with a CRM and structured sales process.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position will be measured by the Account Executive’s ability to consistently create new opportunities and convert those opportunities into revenue.

Key performance indicators may include:

·      New customer accounts acquired.

·      Printer/copier sales and lease revenue.

·      Gross margin and recurring revenue generated.

·      Number of qualified new opportunities created.

·      Prospecting and customer-contact activity.

·      Sales pipeline development.

·      AV opportunities identified and referred or closed.

·      Customer retention and account growth.

·      Achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales objectives.

The CCS Advantage

CCS Presentation Systems offers a unique opportunity for an Account Executive because our sales team can address multiple technology needs within the same customer organization.

A relationship that begins with a printer or copier can lead to opportunities for:

·      Conference room systems

·      Video conferencing

·      Displays and interactive displays

·      Digital signage

·      Audio systems

·      Room scheduling

·      Control systems

·      Collaboration technology

·      Large-format displays and presentation systems

·      Enterprise AV integration

The Account Executive does not need to be an AV engineer. Instead, the successful candidate needs to be a strong relationship builder and opportunity finder who can recognize when a customer has a technology need and bring the appropriate CCS resources into the conversation.

Compensation

CCS offers a competitive compensation package consisting of:

·      Base salary

·      Commission/incentive compensation

·      Performance-based sales opportunities

·      Health, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, etc.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and sales performance.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hunter, not someone who waits for leads to arrive.

You should be comfortable picking up the phone, walking into a business, introducing yourself to a decision-maker, asking questions, and creating an opportunity where one did not previously exist.

You should also be curious about technology and able to recognize opportunities beyond the initial sale. If a customer needs a copier today but is planning a new office, conference room, training center, or facility renovation six months from now, you should be the person who discovers that opportunity and brings CCS’s AV team to the table.

If you are an energetic, competitive sales professional who enjoys winning new business and building long-term customer relationships, CCS Presentation Systems would like to hear from you.
