Accessibility Designer information

What is an accessibility designer?

Accessibility Designers are professionals who ensure that digital products, environments, or services are usable by people of all abilities, including those with disabilities. They focus on designing interfaces, content, and experiences that accommodate a wide range of needs, such as visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive differences. Their work often involves collaborating with developers, UX/UI designers, and stakeholders to implement accessibility standards like the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). By prioritizing accessibility, they help create inclusive products that provide equal access and usability for everyone.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an accessibility designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Accessibility Designer, you need expertise in inclusive design principles, a solid understanding of accessibility standards (such as WCAG), and experience with web or app development. Familiarity with accessibility testing tools, screen readers, and certifications like CPACC or WAS are often required. Strong communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills help you advocate for users with disabilities and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure digital products are usable for everyone and comply with legal accessibility requirements.

How does an accessibility designer typically collaborate with developers and product teams during a project?

Accessibility Designers work closely with developers and product teams throughout the design and development lifecycle. They provide guidelines, review design prototypes for accessibility compliance, and offer feedback to ensure inclusive user experiences. Regular meetings and collaborative workshops are common, allowing Accessibility Designers to address potential barriers early and suggest practical solutions. This role often involves advocating for accessibility best practices and educating team members on emerging standards and tools.

Both roles often collaborate but serve different stages of the accessibility process.

Are accessibility jobs in demand?

Accessibility Designer roles are increasingly in demand as organizations prioritize inclusive digital experiences and comply with accessibility standards like WCAG and ADA. The growth of digital products and legal requirements drive demand for professionals skilled in accessibility testing, design, and development, often requiring knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility tools.

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.

We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Product Designer to join our growing Product Design team. This role is available to candidates across Canada (excluding Quebec) and the US. If you are located near one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto), you will be expected to work in the office a minimum of twice per week on our designated Anchor Days.

Design plays a pivotal role at Clio, standing alongside Product and Engineering as one of the three pillars of our Research and Development organization. Our product designers work directly with customers to understand their behaviors, needs, and workflows. They champion thoughtful, high-quality experiences as we transform how lawyers and their teams serve their clients. If you're focused on shipping value to customers with an opportunity to revolutionize an industry, you've found your next team.

About the role

The Clio Accounting team is on a mission to automate and tailor the accounting experience to every customer: taking firms from weeks of setup to fully operational and automated on day one.

As a Senior Product Designer, you'll define and execute the experience strategy for core Accounting workflows, transaction import, review and matching, and transaction creation and settlement. This high-stakes area spans financial configuration and day-to-day accounting operations; experiences that directly shape whether customers manage their bookkeeping efficiently and accurately. The role sits at the intersection of complex domain logic, structured data, and habit-forming onboarding design.

You'll partner with Product and Engineering to evolve these experiences for solo lawyers to mid-market and enterprise customers, leading end-to-end design from discovery through launch and iteration. Ideal candidates ground decisions in deep customer understanding, translate accounting complexity into clear and intuitive experiences, and drive outcomes from day one.

What you'll do
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define and execute on experience design strategy and success metrics, using research and insights to prioritize what matters most to customers and the business.

  • Design end-to-end experiences across accounting including core workflows from discovery through to release.

  • Translate complex accounting domain logic into clear, scalable UI patterns that work across firm sizes, including mid-market and enterprise.

  • Shape roadmap and feature decisions through research and prototyping, with a focus on reducing time-to-value and building lasting customer habits.

  • Raise the quality bar through polished, accessible, cohesive experiences that make accounting feel approachable.

What you bring
  • 6+ years of experience designing digital products, B2B SaaS and Accounting experience is preferred, but not required.

  • A strong portfolio that showcases your experience designing intuitive product experiences - account setup, financial management, transaction creation, financial automation.

  • Comfort with habit-forming and activation design thinking beyond first use toward long-term customer success

  • Comfort translating complex domain logic into interfaces that feel simple to non-technical users

  • Strong craft across interaction design, information architecture, usability, and visual design, with consistently high-quality execution.

  • Strong customer-centric practice, with the ability to translate customer insight into actionable design direction.

  • Highly capable in design and prototyping tools and solid use of AI tools in your process (e.g., Figma Make, Claude, Gemini, etc.)

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including clear articulation of rationale and trade-offs.

  • A collaborative, low-ego partner - you facilitate alignment, clarify trade-offs, and drive confident execution.

Bonus if you have...
  • Strong experience in Accounting and Fintech product design, with a proven ability to turn complex financial workflows into intuitive, high-impact experiences.

  • Advocate for customer needs in trade-offs, sequencing, and cross-functional decision-making.

  • Raise the quality bar through polished, accessible, and cohesive experiences - and push beyond "good enough" toward best-in-class interaction design.

  • Drive alignment through crisp storytelling and proactive collaboration across teams.

This role is a backfill for an existing position.
