What is an accessibility design?

An Accessibility Design job focuses on creating digital and physical experiences that are usable by people of all abilities, including those with disabilities. This role involves applying accessibility guidelines (such as WCAG) to ensure websites, apps, and products are inclusive. Accessibility designers collaborate with UX/UI teams, developers, and stakeholders to identify and remove barriers. They may conduct user testing with assistive technologies and advocate for accessibility best practices. The goal is to create equitable and usable designs for diverse audiences.

What are the daily responsibilities of an accessibility design professional?

Professionals in Accessibility Design typically spend their days auditing digital products for accessibility, designing or updating interfaces to meet accessibility standards, and collaborating with developers to implement inclusive solutions. They may also conduct user testing with people who have a range of abilities, provide training or guidance to team members on accessibility best practices, and stay current on evolving legal requirements and design trends. Regular communication with cross-functional teams, such as product managers and engineers, is essential to ensure accessibility considerations are integrated throughout the project lifecycle. This collaborative and proactive approach helps create experiences that are accessible to all users.

What skills and qualifications are needed for accessibility design?

To thrive in Accessibility Design, you need a thorough understanding of accessibility standards (such as WCAG), user-centered design principles, and best practices for inclusive digital experiences, often backed by a degree in design, human-computer interaction, or related fields. Familiarity with tools like screen readers, accessibility testing software, and platforms such as Adobe XD or Figma is critical, and certifications like CPACC or Web Accessibility Specialist are highly valued. Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and advocacy skills help you effectively communicate the importance of accessibility and work with cross-functional teams. These skills ensure that digital products are usable by everyone, including people with disabilities, and comply with legal and ethical standards.

As an Experience Design Vice President in Identity & Access Management, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience across our products and services. Leveraging your deep knowledge of design and research practices to lead strategically important initiatives and develop innovative solutions that align with business requirements and user needs. As a subject matter expert, collaborate with cross-functional teams, guide, and mentor junior designers, and foster a culture of inclusivity and accessibility. Your expertise in experience strategy and inclusive design will ensure that our offerings are not only visually appealing but also accessible and user-friendly, enhancing the overall customer experience. Head the planning of multiple project initiatives and contribute to the vision of the global technology team. You'll support our client-first mindset by enabling and supporting library methodologies to drive efficiency and effectiveness. Key responsibilities include building relationships with stakeholders, growing and fostering a high-performance UX team, working with designers to ensure deliverables are consistent with design languages and systems, and communicating research results to leadership.

Job responsibilities

  • Develop and execute design/research strategies for complex projects and ensure alignment with business objectives and user needs across multiple product areas
  • Diagram service flows and product features, design wireframes, and prototype interactions for key touchpoints as you lead end-to-end design initiatives within a specific domain.
  • Role-model the adoption of inclusive design practices and accessibility guidelines, mentor junior designers and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate user experience design into the product development processes and ensure seamless and customer-centric solutions
  • Analyze market trends, gather feedback from user research, and learn from data insights to inform design decisions and optimize user experiences across various platforms and channels

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 5+ years (or equivalent) in UX/Product Design delivering end-to-end experiences on complex enterprise products
  • Comfortable designing for IAM/security workflows and multiple personas (end users, approvers, admins, auditors, developers)
  • Strong ability to create and use journeys/flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes to align teams and drive decisions
  • Demonstrated inclusive design and accessibility practice (e.g., WCAG)
  • Security UX mindset: design experiences that are both safe and usable (clear risk communication, least-privilege defaults, strong recovery/error patterns)
  • Experience with generative and evaluative research methods across the product lifecycle
  • User-centric approach with rapid testing and iterative design cycles
  • Strong visual, UI, and interaction design skills
  • Good judgment using design systems (when to follow, when to extend/evolve)
  • Advanced technical literacy (client-side patterns, APIs, microservices) plus IAM concepts (SSO, SAML/OIDC, SCIM, RBAC/ABAC, policies, audit/logging)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including influencing stakeholders and partnering closely with fast-moving engineering teams

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Design leadership or managerial experience
  • Ability to use prototyping tools to convey design intent
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities on concurrent, rigorous deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment
