Job description

TLC, The Treatment and Learning Centers, is seeking an experienced academic tutor to provide individualized instruction to middle school, high school, and college students in reading comprehension, written expression, executive functioning, study skills, college readiness, and standardized test preparation. This is a part-time (5-10 hours per week) position based in our outpatient center in Rockville, MD. We are seeking a tutor who is passionate about helping students with varying needs including neurodiverse profiles and learning disabilities to strengthen academic skills, develop independence, build confidence, and achieve success in school, college, and beyond.

The Treatment and Learning Centers (TLC) is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1950. Each year, TLC's programs serve more than 2,000 neurodiverse individuals with a wide range of educational, developmental, and mental health needs. Our interdisciplinary team includes psychologists, counselors, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, tutors, and educators who work together to help students and families achieve meaningful success.

Competitive hourly rate of $40-$44 per hour, depending on experience.ย  This is an in-person position.
Job Responsibilities

  • Support reading comprehension, written expression, and academic skill development to middle school, high school, and college students
  • Support students with academic writing, including essays, research papers, and college application essays
  • Teach executive functioning skills, including organization, time management, planning, prioritization, task initiation, and self-monitoring
  • Prepare students for the language and writing sections of standardized tests such as the
  • HPST, PSAT, and other entrance or placement exams
  • Develop personalized learning plans based on each student's needs and goals and record the progress in our documentation system
  • Monitor student progress and communicate effectively with parents, students, and supervisor
