Job description

The Quality Engineer (BESS) serves as the primary technical authority for product excellence and reliability. You will bridge the gap between R&D and field operations, ensuring that BESS components (Batteries, Inverters, Controls) meet rigorous performance standards and "Quality by Design" principles before reaching the customer.

Requirements

  • Quality by Design (QbD): Review product architecture and specifications to identify technical risks early in the development lifecycle; act as the "Quality Gate" for the Americas region.
  • Supplier Quality Engineering: Define and audit technical requirements for inverter and battery suppliers, ensuring grid-following and grid-forming capabilities meet strict reliability benchmarks.
  • Validation & Simulation: Oversee PSSE/PSCAD dynamic model reviews to validate that project designs will perform reliably under real-world grid conditions.
  • Standardization: Develop automated processes and "Gold Standard" configurations for system-level parameters to eliminate manual tuning errors and ensure consistency.
  • Root Cause & CAPA: Lead high-level Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) for complex electrical failures, driving permanent engineering improvements.
  • Issues Triage: Serve as the front line for the quality intake systems and tasked with reducing ticket backlog and intake though the incorporation of lessons learned. Work to ensure tickets are properly assigned, prioritized, and evaluated for commercial risk. Use data analytics to review Non-Conformance Requests in the form of CAPAs, JIRAs, NCRs, and more.
  • Operational Excellence: Author SOPs and technical testing procedures that enable non-SMEs to execute complex tasks with zero-defect outcomes.
  • Due Diligence: Conduct technical audits of BMS and PCS technology solutions to ensure long-term feasibility, safety, and compatibility with existing quality frameworks.

Requirements (The "Agile" / Skills)

  • Advanced Degree: Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Domain Expertise: 10+ years in Power Systems/Electrical Engineering with a deep focus on Quality Management Systems (QMS) or product qualification.
  • Power Electronics Quality: 5+ years of experience in IGBT-based inverter performance testing and failure mode analysis.
  • Process Engineering: Proven track record in creating engineering calculators, internal design standards, and automated testing plans for BESS or Solar PV.
  • Systems Integration: Expertise in Modbus TCP controls and DC/AC systems with a focus on test-driven development (TDD) or automated validation.
  • Regulatory Mastery: Thorough working knowledge of NFPA, UL, and IEEE codes, viewed through the lens of compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Travel: Ability to travel 25% or more
