Health Informatics Analyst – Interoperability

Location: Augusta, ME (Hybrid)

Pay Rate: $83,200.00 annually


Position Summary

The Health Informatics Analyst – Interoperability leads and supports statewide interoperability efforts for Maine’s Newborn Bloodspot Screening (NBS) Program under the HRSA-funded CoPropel initiative.

This role is responsible for improving how health data is securely shared, exchanged, and utilized across hospitals, providers, laboratories, and public health systems. The Coordinator evaluates health IT systems, identifies gaps, and implements solutions that enhance efficiency, data quality, and regulatory compliance.

The position requires strong expertise in health informatics, data analysis, and system integration, with the ability to translate business and clinical needs into technical solutions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead interoperability initiatives across Maine’s newborn screening ecosystem
  • Analyze health IT systems, workflows, and data exchange processes
  • Define and document business requirements, system specifications, and workflows
  • Identify system inefficiencies and recommend improvements
  • Design, develop, and implement system enhancements and integrations
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, laboratories, and IT teams to gather requirements
  • Ensure systems meet user needs and regulatory standards
  • Support integration across:
    • Newborn Screening Program (NBS)
    • Maine hospitals and healthcare providers
    • New England Newborn Screening Program
    • Children’s Health Screening Tracking System
  • Provide technical support and end-user training
  • Develop and maintain system documentation and training materials
  • Conduct data audits and support quality assurance activities
  • Stay current on health IT trends, standards, and best practices

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience as a Health IT Analyst, Systems Analyst, or related role
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems and health informatics principles
  • Experience with health IT regulations and interoperability standards
  • Strong data analysis and system development experience
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with statewide or multi-system interoperability initiatives
  • Knowledge of newborn screening programs or public health systems
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Experience conducting data audits and quality assurance reviews
  • Experience developing and delivering training materials

Technical Skills
  • HL7 messaging standards
  • Clinical coding systems: LOINC, SNOMED
  • Health data exchange and interoperability frameworks
  • System integration and requirements documentation
  • Project management methodologies

Work Schedule
  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Occasional evenings and weekends as required
  • Hybrid: Up to 3 remote days/week and 2 onsite days in Augusta, ME

Travel Requirements
  • Regular in-state travel to hospitals, clinics, and partner organizations
  • Occasional regional or national travel (e.g., HRSA meetings, APHL Symposium)
  • Participation in in-person and virtual meetings
