VOLCANIX AUTOMATION is building a multidisciplinary Controls & Robotics team to support a large-scale advanced energy manufacturing facility in the Northeastern United States. We are hiring multiple engineers and programmers across several experience levels, from Intermediate Engineers to Technical Leads.

This is a hands-on engineering opportunity involving industrial controls, SCADA development, PLC programming, robotics integration, commissioning, and production support in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, configure, commission, and troubleshoot industrial control systems and automated equipment.
  • Program and troubleshoot Siemens PLCs using TIA Portal.
  • Develop, configure, and maintain Ignition Platform SCADA applications.
  • Program, teach, optimize, and troubleshoot industrial robots (FANUC and/or ABB).
  • Support robotic cell integration, commissioning, and production startup activities.
  • Integrate robots with PLC-controlled equipment, industrial networks, vision systems, and safety devices.
  • Optimize robot paths, cycle times, and process performance to meet production goals.
  • Perform system testing, validation, customer run-offs, and production handoffs.
  • Troubleshoot controls, robotics, electrical, communication, and automation issues.
  • Collaborate with project managers, mechanical engineers, production personnel, and customer teams.
  • Maintain technical documentation while following customer engineering standards.

Additional Responsibilities for Technical Leads

  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary Controls and Robotics engineering teams.
  • Coordinate technical activities with project managers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout commissioning, startup, and production support activities.
  • Establish engineering best practices and maintain technical quality across the project.

Experience Levels

Intermediate Engineer / Programmer

  • 3+ years of experience in industrial automation.
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • Siemens PLC programming (TIA Portal)
  • Working experience with Ignition Platform (SCADA)
  • FANUC and/or ABB robot programming
  • Familiarity with industrial networks (Profinet, EtherNet/IP)
  • Experience supporting commissioning and startup activities
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in manufacturing environments
  • Experience with RobotStudio and/or Roboguide is a plus
  • Experience with vision systems, motion control, safety systems, or error-proofing is preferred

Senior Engineer / Programmer

  • 7+ years of experience in industrial automation
  • Strong Siemens PLC programming experience (TIA Portal)
  • Strong Ignition Platform SCADA development experience
  • Strong FANUC and/or ABB robot programming experience
  • Experience commissioning large-scale automated manufacturing systems
  • Experience with robot simulation tools (RobotStudio and/or Roboguide)
  • Strong understanding of industrial networks, safety systems, motion control, and vision systems
  • Proven ability to develop automation and robotic programs from scratch

Controls & Robotics Lead

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial automation
  • Previous technical leadership or supervisory experience
  • Expert knowledge of Siemens PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and industrial automation systems
  • Strong experience with FANUC and/or ABB robotic systems
  • Extensive commissioning experience on large-scale manufacturing projects
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate directly with customers
  • Strong technical mentoring, communication, and organizational skills

Qualifications

  • Engineering or Technical Degree required
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Comfortable working on-site in fast-paced manufacturing environments
  • Self-motivated with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
