Job description

The Wine Sales Ambassador (WSA) will be responsible for direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales and wine club acquisition. This position is ideal for anyone who enjoys creating exceptional and approachable experiences for customers, ensuring guests receive distinguished service with warmth. The core of the position entails driving sales at the Direct to Consumer (DTC) level by creating memorable tasting flights that will elevate wine lovers’ experiences, understanding the value of repeat customers and wine club memberships. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for positive customer interactions and exceptional hospitality that result in maximizing sales, meeting Club Wente membership goals, maintaining high customer service standards and retention.
  • Create compelling guest experiences that propels guest engagement, wine club activation and generates wine sales/revenue.
  • Present the benefits of becoming a wine club member to guests, contributing to the growth of the wine club and obtaining individual and team sales goals.
  • Host experiences that educate guests on WFE’s history, brands, vineyards, winemaking and wines, ultimately leading to an engaging experience that creates brand loyalty and wine sales.
  • Creates opportunities to sell events, services and experiences offered on the property
  • The WSA will be expected to achieve daily/weekly/monthly individual and team sales goals.
  • The WSA will be empowered to learn and understand the WFE guest and to recommend improvements to optimize the guest experiences and profits and to create value and to creatively engage and satisfy loyalists, as well as new patrons who are exploring the brand, the winery and the Livermore Valley for the first time.
  • The WSA will be supporting all brands within the Wente Portfolio and required to deliver wine and guest experience at all properties contingent upon the business needs and demands.  Thus, mastery of the complete wine portfolio and flexibility on physical location is required in the role.
  • Conduct knowledge based tasting experiences for guests
  • The WSA will as deliver an unforgettable wine and culinary adventure that brings the best of the Wente Family Estates wine and local, seasonal and high-quality nibbles to the guest.
  • Work and communicate positively and respectfully with all members of the tasting room team
  • Ability to function independently and make empowered decisions that positively affect the guest’s experience
  • Participate in and assist with special events and represents winery at outside functions as needed
  • Train ambassadors selected by the management team on our wines, sales techniques and tours.
  • Ensure smooth daily operations, including effective and appropriate communication, successfully managing traffic flow throughout the day and overseeing that guests are being engaged and entertained.
  • Process transactions, stock wine and assist guest with purchases.
  • Follow all safety practices and proactively mitigate risks for employees and guests.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and orderly environment.
  • Perform opening and closing duties.

Skills/Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated sales aptitude and passion for sharing the story of the vines to the bottle.
  • Proven results and experience in a tasting room, previous sales or DTC role.
  • Proven experience contributing and reaching goals as part of a team
  • Strong knowledge of and a passion for wine, food and the wine industry
  • Must understand, explain, and develop their personal wine knowledge. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skill
  • Knowledge of Wine Direct and Cellar Pass or the ability to quickly learn these programs
  • Present a positive outlook when faced with challenge or change
  • Be positive, a natural team player and self-motivated
  • Be professional at all times with a neat and clean appearance
  • At least 21 years of age and have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Able to speak and read English fluently.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of three (3) shifts per week, including weekend and holiday availability.
  • May be required to work at all WFE Tasting Rooms

Physical Qualifications

  • Requires the ability to stand, for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and vision sufficient to operate a computer for potentially long periods of time without experiencing abnormal hand, wrist or eye strain.
  • Hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone
  • Must have coordination sufficient to operate various office machines, including but not limited to iPads, telephones, computers, scanners, cash register, etc.
