What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A welding job can pay $10,000 a month for experienced welders working in high-demand industries such as oil and gas, aerospace, or construction, especially with specialized skills like underwater or pipeline welding. These roles often require certifications and extensive on-the-job training but do not necessarily require a college degree.

Can welding cause floaters?

Welding as a profession involves exposure to bright light, UV radiation, and sometimes eye strain, which can contribute to eye discomfort but is not directly linked to causing floaters. Floaters are typically caused by age-related changes in the vitreous humor of the eye and are not a common occupational hazard for welders. Proper eye protection and regular eye exams are recommended to prevent injury and monitor eye health.

Reports To: Director of Manufacturing / Plant Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Join a Team That Builds What Others Canโ€™t.

At Align Production Systems, we engineer custom solutions for the worldโ€™s toughest material handling challenges. We are seeking a high-energy, self-motivated Welder to join our fabrication team. This role requires a hands-on professional who takes pride in quality workmanship, maintains a positive attitude, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.

This position plays a direct role in delivering safe, high-quality systems that meet customer expectations and production schedules.

What Youโ€™ll Do:

  • Interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and mechanical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding to AWS standards
  • Ensure proper fit-up, alignment, and dimensional accuracy of fabricated components
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and jib cranes for material movement and part positioning
  • Follow proper rigging and lifting procedures in compliance with plant safety standards
  • Maintain high quality standards while meeting production timelines
  • Identify and communicate fabrication issues proactively
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts

  • Experience operating overhead cranes and jib cranes in an industrial setting
  • Strong understanding of welding materials, methods, and AWS standards
  • High proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and work instructions
  • Self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High energy level and positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Travel occasionally to customer site

Preferred:

  • Experience in custom or low-volume/high-mix production environments
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and ability to interpret 2D/3D CAD drawings

Why Align?

  • Be part of a team that designs and builds unique, high-impact systems
  • Work on custom projectsโ€”not repetitive production welding
  • Opportunity for skill growth and advancement
  • Recognition for craftsmanship and continuous improvement

Working Conditions:

  • Shop-floor environment in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
  • Standing and walking throughout the shift
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent use of overhead and jib cranes for material handling
