The Sr. Analyst, Business Analytics is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced analytical solutions to drive business insights and operational excellence within Payment Operations. This role combines expertise in data analytics, business process improvement, and data governance to support strategic decision-making, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The Sr. Analyst leads data analysis and modeling projects, develops dashboards and reports, and collaborates with governance, risk management, and cross-functional teams to ensure data-driven solutions align with internal, regulatory, and industry standards.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

What You'll Be Doing

Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Perform advanced data analysis using Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, and other tools to automate data preparation, blend multiple sources, and analyze operational and governance data.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to visualize key metrics, trends, and process performance for management and operational teams.
  • Use programming languages such as Python or R to manipulate data, build models, automate analytical processes, and generate actionable insights.
  • Interpret data outputs to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for process improvement, recommending targeted actions based on empirical evidence.

Data Management & Governance

  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of data governance policies, ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance across Payment Operations.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to design, optimize, and document data structures, ETL processes, and analytical pipelines.
  • Implement data validation and quality controls to ensure accuracy and reliability of analytical models.

Process Design & Improvement

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of business processes using data-driven approaches to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for optimization.
  • Design and document optimized workflows, create process maps and flowcharts, and collaborate with stakeholders to drive effective change.
  • Gather input from stakeholders and use data-driven approaches to assess workflow effectiveness and alignment with organizational objectives.

Governance & Risk Management

  • Collaborate with governance and risk management teams to ensure operational processes and procedures comply with enterprise policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in risk assessments, identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational and data-related risks within Payment Operations.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and implement effective controls to address them.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Present complex analytical findings and model results to technical and non-technical audiences through compelling data storytelling and visualizations.
  • Work closely with business leaders, IT, governance, and risk management teams to identify data-driven opportunities and translate requirements into actionable solutions.

Audit, Testing, and Compliance

  • Assist with internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and testing by providing data, documentation, and analytical support.
  • Prepare and submit accurate documentation, respond to auditor requests, and support remediation activities.
  • Coordinate and implement corrective actions to address audit findings, ensuring ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.

Continuous Improvement & Training

  • Identify opportunities to enhance department operations, data management, and business continuity planning.
  • Provide training and support to department staff on new or revised processes, procedures, data management, and data analytics tools (Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI, Python/R).
  • Stay current with emerging trends, tools, and best practices in data analytics, governance, and business process improvement.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Management, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics, business process analysis, or advanced data analytics roles, with hands-on experience in statistical modeling, programming (Python or R), and BI tools.
  • Proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL databases, and process mapping tools (e.g., Visio).
  • Experience with big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud-based analytics (AWS, Azure, GCP) is preferred.
  • Experience in records management, data stewardship, or business continuity planning is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
