Project Accountant – Drive Financial Precision for a Leading Heavy Industrial Contractor


Job Overview

  • Company: R Baker & Son
  • Salary/Pay Rate: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
  • Location: Marlboro, NJ (In person)
  • Job/Employment Type: Full-time
  • Schedule: 8 hour shift, Monday to Friday
  • Project Scope: Commercial demolition, rigging, and large industrial projects
  • Mandatory Licences & Certifications: Valid driver’s license


The Opportunity

You will step into a pivotal financial role, taking full ownership of project status reviews, budget tracking, and percent completion reporting. Working directly with company owners and senior leadership, you will maximize revenue generation by ensuring every out-of-scope task, change order, and T&M ticket is meticulously captured and billed. This is your chance to make a visible impact on the financial health and continued expansion of a premier, 91-year-old family-owned industry leader.


How You Will Make an Impact

  • Execute detailed weekly and monthly financial reports to verify accurate cost allocation and strict adherence to estimated project budgets.
  • Collaborate directly with project managers to identify, price, and capture attainable change orders and Time & Material (T&M) tickets.
  • Monitor contract adjustments and approvals continuously to guarantee all completed on-site services are completely invoiced.
  • Audit job costing, AIA schedules, and T&M tracking within the specialized financial system immediately upon customer bid acceptance.
  • Drive accountability across project teams to ensure the timely delivery of critical data regarding hours worked and percentage completion.
  • Communicate financial variance and real-time project status transparently and accurately to ownership and senior management.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of dedicated project accounting experience within the construction industry.
  • Strong command of AIA billing processes, change orders, and diverse contract terms including Lump Sum, Unit Price, and T&M.
  • Bachelor’s degree with completed coursework in accounting, finance, project management, or business management.
  • Proven proficiency with specialized construction job costing software and advanced Microsoft Excel functions.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States as a US citizen or green card holder.
  • Ability to provide solid, verifiable professional references upon request.


Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Direct project accounting experience within the commercial demolition or industrial rigging sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully alongside unionized field workforces and project teams.
