Job description

The University of Virginia, Facilities Management, is seeking a Plumber in the West Grounds Zone, which supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, reliable maintenance to the University community. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Position Summary:
Plumbers perform journey level installation, repair, and maintenance on a variety of plumbing equipment, which could include pumps, compressors, heating systems, air lines, sewer lines, and sprinkler systems. They receive only general supervision and instruction from senior or supervisor, and are responsible for independently installing, repairing, and replacing plumbing equipment. They provide technical guidance to assistants and apprentices.
Duties Include:
  • Replace and install plumbing and mechanical components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and update or repair the systems when necessary.
  • Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, BOCA, federal, state, and local regulations, and applicable building codes.
  • Respond to requests from the University community and address plumbing problems quickly and professionally.
  • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Ensure that all safety and personal protective equipment are used.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special events setups, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of four [4] years of experience in the plumbing trade.
  • Journeyman or higher plumbing license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Licensed with Backflow Certification.

Compensation:
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $24.50 - $29.00 per hour ($49,920 - $60,320 Annually). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
