Job description

Senior Structural Engineer

IMEG is hiring a Senior Structural Engineer in Raleigh, NC; Greensboro, NC; Charlotte, NC; or Norfolk, VA to lead complex structural building projects for a team with deep roots in the Southeast and a strong reputation for creative, buildable structural solutions. Formerly Lynch Mykins, IMEG's Raleigh structural team works on highly visible projects across sports and recreation, entertainment, higher education, civic, government, K-12, healthcare and community-focused markets.

In this role, you'll lead structural project delivery as a project manager or lead engineer, guiding design direction, mentoring junior engineers, collaborating closely with architects and project partners, and helping turn ambitious design concepts into safe, efficient, and constructible structures. You'll join a collaborative, trust-based culture that values flexibility, technical excellence, and ownership, with hybrid work schedules that support both strong project delivery and a healthy work-life balance.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of structural systems and develop designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports
  • Partner with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information effectively
  • Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Provide technical training and mentoring, and support resolution of field issues with minimal support from senior staff
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work
  • Conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, architects, and project managers) to deliver integrated solutions and participate in project interviews and presentations

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Master's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Mastery of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Mastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures
  • Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate effective team building skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

  • Collaborate closely with architects, owners, builders, and multidisciplinary IMEG teams to turn ambitious design concepts into safe, efficient, and constructible structures.
