The flex officers cover open post, vacation request, extra coverage, and call outs. Flex officer's hours vary depending on the individual's availability to cover the opening shifts.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Flex officers need to be available to fill in for vacation request, open post, extra coverage, or call outs. If a utility officer cannot fulfill this commitment, this will limit their ability to remain a flex officer.

If a flex officer has less than 40 hours for the week and is called within four (4) hours to start shift, the flex officer will be required to fill the shift. Any flex officer that cannot fill a shift within the four (4) hour time frame or cannot fill a complete shift after being offered a shift three (3) times, may be subject to discipline up to and including removal from the flex officer program.

Generally, major holidays bring vacation requests from security officers with seniority. These requests are made in advance and require a flex officer to fill the opening for the security officer. Flex officers need to understand that you may be required to fill these openings during the holidays.
