Job description

Overview

Overview:

IMSA is committed to equity and excellence, including the active recruitment of students from all areas of Illinois. IMSA's PROMISE Program addresses the unique challenges of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse (CLED) students who have an interest in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming at low to no cost. This grant-funded program is open to all students, especially Black or African American students, Latinx students, students who qualify for the national free or reduced-price meal program, as well as students from rural Illinois counties. The PROMISE Program consists of three grade-based experiences serving students 7th -9th grade.

Currently, we are seeking instructors for the fall 2026 PROMISE Program which serves non-IMSA students currently enrolled in the 9th grade. The program will run on 7 designated Saturday sessions. In this program, candidates will work with students that have varying academic backgrounds.

Program Dates and Details: Expected work hours are Saturdays 8:15AM - 1:00PM Maximum number of participants: 80 Session Dates:

  • September 19 - Family Orientation, attendance is not required

Program Schedule: Three 65 minute classes each session consisting of approximately 25 students per group. Schedule:

  • Class 1: 9:00 AM - 10:05 AM
  • Class 2: 10:10 AM - 11:15 AM
  • Brunch: 11:30 AM - 11:50 AM
  • Class 3: 11:55 AM - 1:00 PM

Compensation: $48.00 per hour

Positions: Math (1 opening)

Responsibilities

Expectations: Develop a daily lesson plan. This may include approved original curriculum, activities used in previous years, or curriculum provided by the Outreach department.. Lead lectures and hands on activities with assistance from student tutors Maintain a safe, respectful, and encouraging environment for participating students Completion of an evaluation form for each program participantOther information: Faculty will have the assistance of IMSA student tutors who can lead/facilitate activities 1for the class and/or small groups.

Additional opportunities for special lessons:One of the instruction periods will be a "Specials" course. This course will be a rotation of special guest instructors from disciplines across the Academy. Special guests are compensated and can sign up for 1-2 sessions. This is a great way for IMSA to highlight all of the exceptional learning opportunities outside of math and science!
