LOCATION OF POSITION

There are multiple vacancies located at Maryland State Police (MSP) Barracks across the State of Maryland. Please select only the county/counties (locations) for which\r\nyou are willing to accept employment.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the MSP Emergency Dispatcher Trainee is to facilitate officer safety by monitoring police radio transmissions and utilizing all communications equipment towards that end at the entry level performance.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Duties include but are\r\nnot limited to:\r\n\r\n\r\n Monitor\r\n and communicate with MSP and other public safety personnel via two-way\r\n multi-channel radios and maintain required documentation of same;\r\n Utilize\r\n METERS/NCIC/NLETS to obtain, update, disseminate and accurately transmit\r\n information within the Department and to other law enforcement and criminal\r\n justice agencies;\r\n Utilize\r\n telephones in a professional manner to provide necessary guidance and\r\n information to Departmental personnel and the general public;\r\n File\r\n and maintain METERS/NLETS messages, and various required logs associated with\r\n the communications center operations;\r\n Interact\r\n with Department personnel, allied agencies and the general public;\r\n Performs\r\n other related duties as assigned.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high\r\nschool or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience:None.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\n One year of dispatching experience in a 911 (police/emergency) services environment utilizing a CAD (computer aided dispatch) system.\r\n One year of experience in a multi-faceted work environment using data entry keyboard functions and a multi-line telephone system.\r\n A combination of one year of emergency dispatch training, education and/or experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

\r\n\r\n In accordance with\r\n Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates for position in\r\n this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening and a complete\r\n criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before\r\n permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for\r\n rejection of the candidate.\r\n Employees in this\r\n classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code\r\n of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n Employees in this\r\n classification will be required to provide the employing barrack with a\r\n telephone number where they can be reached.\r\n Candidates for this classification may be given a medical\r\n examination to determine their ability to perform the duties of the job\r\n classification.\r\n\r\n\r\n

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet\r\nthe minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.\r\nTherefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information\r\non your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List\r\ncategorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain\r\neligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.\r\nThe list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. The list will\r\nbe valid for one year.\r\n

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will\r\nconsist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the\r\nrequirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications\r\nsupplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all\r\nexperience and education that is related to this position.\r\n
