UTILITY LOCATOR

AMES, IA & DES MOINES, IA

DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a reliable and detail-orientated UTILITY LOCATOR to join our Technical Consulting team. The UTILITY LOCATOR will be responsible for reading blueprints, and marking underground utility lines prior to excavation. The UTILITY LOCATOR is necessary to prepare grounds and provide safety for workers, the public and critical infrastructure. The UTILITY LOCATOR travels between Iowa locations and marks all specified utilities, regardless of weather conditions.

DUTIES

  • Use electromagnetic locating equipment and other technology to identify underground gas, electric, water, sewer and fiber optic systems.
  • Mark utility locations in accordance with industry standards and state regulations.
  • Respond to excavation requests and complete locate tickets within required timeframe.
  • Interpret utility maps, drawings, GIS data and constructions plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of locates, field notes and completed work orders.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, homeowners, municipalities, and utility companies.
  • Conduct field investigations to verify utlilty locations and resolve conflcits.
  • Ensue compliance with OSHA regulations, safety standards and One-Call requirements.
  • Inspect and maintain company vehicles, tools and locating equipment.
  • Report damages to utilities, hazardous conditions and safety concerns immediately.
  • Maintain legal drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and manage daily workload.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Travel Throughout Ames/Des Moines

  • Frequent walking, bending and kneeling
  • Near roadways, construction sites and utility corridors.
  • Will work in all weather conditions rain, hail, sleet, snow, hot, humid and dry.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
