Job description

The Job Vehicle Service Worker Pay range: $22.08 - $27.09 per hour (requires a Class B permit with airbrake and passenger endorsements upon hire. Omnitrans, provider of public mass transit for the San Bernardino Valley in Southern California is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our award-winning team. The ideal Candidate hired will be under moderate direction, services automobiles and motor coaches; removes and empties fare box vault; sanitizes all vehicles; and performs duties as required. Examples of Duties The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this position: Using high-pressure equipment dispenses compressed natural gas (CNG) into buses; fuels cars and support equipment (rolling stock) with gasoline. Sweeps, mops, dusts and cleans rolling stock; operates cleaning and washing equipment including pressure washers, bus washes and manual cleaning gear. Removes, empties and reinstalls fare box vaults.

Checks and dispenses fuel, (gasoline, CNG and hydrogen), oil and water and other fluids. Checks for air system and fluid leaks, tire pressure and wear, inoperative lighting, unusual sounds, and unusual conditions, and reports defects to the Shift Supervisor. Checks batteries and adds water as required.

May operate light vehicles to transport parts and supplies. Assists in cleaning work area. Moves rolling stock to perform services at the fuel island.

Moves rolling stock between divisions and to vendors as necessary. Performs all other duties as assigned. The Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE One year experience in vehicle service, cleaning, and/or maintenance is desirable.

High school diploma or equivalent. Vehicle Service Worker must provide at least a State of California Commercial Vehicle Instruction Permit Class B with passenger and air brakes endorsement or possess a State of California Commercial driver's license with a B-P endorsement with airbrakes prior to first day of work and must obtain and maintain a valid Class B California Motor Vehicle Operator's License with passenger endorsements after driver training. Must be available to work any specified Maintenance Department Shift which may include days, nights, graveyard, weekends, and holidays.

ABILITY TO DEMONSTRATE Light to heavy labor using strict safety rules Teamwork. This job requires working closely and cooperatively with others in a fast-paced environment. Basic problem-solving, honesty, and the ability to work with a diverse workforce.

Common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Flexibility to work with extended exposure to outdoors, noise, unpleasant odors, heavy-duty cleaning chemicals, fumes, and all types of weather conditions. SPECIAL CONDITIONS Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.

Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Act (Cal-OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and protective gear including but not limited to respirators and/or hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The Selection Process Candidates will be screened for relevant qualifying experience that consists of an evaluation of education and experience. (A Class B license is not required to submit an employment application but a Class B permit or Class A or B License with passenger and air brake endorsement is required prior to the first day of employment). The most competitively qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the selection process.

The selection process may include a combination of written, performance, and oral examinations. The process will also include an extensive background/criminal investigation (including LiveScan), pre-assessment evaluation, and DOT pre-employment physical examination with drug screening.
