Job Summary:
Sets up and operates computer numerical control (CNC) vertical and horizontal 5-Axis machining centers to perform machine functions such as surfacing, profiling, boring, facing, and threading parts of metallic workpieces such as castings, weldments, forgings, plates, blocks, and tubing by performing the following duties:
Essential Functions:
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Programs 5-Axis CNC machines with Mastercam.
  • Perform set-ups by setting tools up, offsets, and compensation; calculating tooling requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs; ability to '3-point' workpieces with stock models and tooling balls; ability to hang large work pieces on horizontal machine centers.
  • Verifies set-ups by measuring head clearance, machine travel, and positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing machining operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes, and root-cause analysis; adjusting and programming controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs (Total Productive Maintenance)
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs (non-conformity).
  • Interfaces with Engineering, Programming, Materials, and Quality as necessary.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs in Plex (ERP).
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
  • Conceptual Skills, Process Improvement, Verbal Communication, Functional and Technical Skills, Controls and Instrumentation, Supply Management, Tooling, Time Management, Coordination, Inventory Control, Attention to Detail, Judgment
  • Minimum 2 years of Mastercam
  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience across multiple 5-Axis machining applications (Zimmermann, Apec, FPT, Mecof)
  • Experience with Heidenhain and Fidia controls (preferred)
  • General knowledge of QMS (ISO9001/AS9100)
  • General knowledge of 5S practices
  • General knowledge of basic fixturing
  • Crane experience (preferred)
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability displayed and accuracy of work produced, meeting company standards, and requiring little to no rework.

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, and at least five years CNC Machining experience. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of Mastercam
  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience across multiple 5-Axis machining applications (Zimmermann, Apec, FPT, Mecof)
  • Experience with Heidenhain and Fidia controls (preferred)
  • General knowledge of QMS (ISO9001/AS9100)
  • General knowledge of 5S practices
  • General knowledge of basic fixturing

Background Prerequisites:
  • Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.

  • Crane experience (preferred)
