Job description

There is a 4-Hour General Food Service Help position open at Mansfield Senior High for the 2025-2026 school year.
Summary:
Performs a variety of routine duties in the cafeteria to prepare equipment and foods for service, serve foods, and clean up after meals, following established practices and procedures.
Work hours will be 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM.
Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Must pass basic skills test for General Help (4 to 7 hour positions) and basic math test.
  3. One year previous school food service experience in 2 to 3 hour general help position preferred..
  4. One year experience in the operation and care for all standardized food service equipment.
  5. Knows how to safely operate and care for all standardized food service equipment.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of Federal School Lunch and Breakfast Requirements preferred.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of Standardized Food Service Weights and Measures preferred,.
  8. Knows how to properly extend recipes.
  9. Has current knowledge of safe food handling and sanitation procedures.
  10. Must be able to stand on feet for four hours or more, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds by himself/herself, and up to approximately 50 pounds with help from another staff member.
  11. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  12. Must be able to come in early or stay late as needed by head cook due to unusual circumstances (i.e. temporary meal time changes, absenteeism).
  13. As of July 1, 2016, must have a valid Ohio driver's license.
 Job Objective(s):
  1. To assist in the preparation and serving of attractive, nutritious, and quality meals for students.
  2. To promote a healthy and friendly atmosphere in kitchen.
 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Complete duties assigned in an efficient, accurate, neat, and sanitary manner.
  2. Follow sound sanitary guidelines and safety procedures in preparation of food and use of equipment.
  3. Prepare and set up serving line.  Obtain and place dishes, trays, utensils, hot and cold foods, baked goods, beverages, desserts, and condiments.
  4. Set up menu board and reflect current menu.
  5. Wipe-off counters and tables; arrange, re-arrange and replenish items as needed.
  6. Serve lunch and assist in post-meal clean-up tasks as assigned or directed.  Report defective equipment/supplies and unusual conditions to supervision.
  7. Assist in dish room as needed to complete clean-up of dishes, trays, utensils, and equipment, including dish machine.
  8. Assist as needed to expedite flow of work in kitchen and cafeteria, etc.
  9. Communicate and cooperate with the Manager of Food Service, Administration, Building Principal, Head Cook, Staff, Students, and Parents to meet the needs of the district.
  10. Establish an on-going self-improvement program of work habits through in-service training, and local and state food service meetings.
  11. Abide by the Mansfield City Board of Education policies and regulations.
  12. Perform other appropriate duties which may be assigned by the Head Cook, Food Service Manager, and/or school administration.
 Physical Attributes and Demands:
  1. Somewhat undesirable working conditions.
  2. Exposed to heat, wetness, fumes, odors, and other kitchen elements.
  3. Subject to cuts, burns, scalds, etc.
  4. Extensive standing for 4 to 7 hours or more each day.
  5. Considerable reaching, lifting, bending, stooping, and moving of equipment and supplies of up to 25 pounds alone and up to 50 pounds with the help of another staff member.
