Job description


The 3PL Logistics Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination, and performance of logistics activities supporting multiple clients across four facilities. This position serves as a key operational link between customers, warehouse operations, transportation providers, logistics associates, and leadership.

The Supervisor ensures each client's unique service requirements, operating procedures, shipment priorities, and performance expectations are consistently executed while maintaining standardized logistics processes across the assigned network.

This role provides direct leadership to logistics clerks, specialists, and other assigned logistics team members and is responsible for workload management, transportation coordination, appointment execution, customer communication, KPI performance, issue resolution, and operational escalations.

Because the position supports multiple clients and facilities, the Supervisor must effectively prioritize competing demands, maintain clear visibility of individual customer requirements, and proactively communicate service risks and recovery plans.

Supervisor’s Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Key ResponsibilitiesMulti-Client & Multi-Site Operations
    • Provide daily logistics supervision and coordination across four assigned facilities supporting multiple 3PL customers.
    • Ensure each facility executes customer-specific logistics requirements, service-level agreements, standard operating procedures, and shipment priorities.
    • Coordinate inbound, outbound, expedite, and other transportation requirements across assigned customer accounts.
    • Balance priorities across multiple clients while ensuring service commitments are consistently achieved.
    • Maintain visibility of workload, shipment status, capacity requirements, operational constraints, and customer priorities across all four facilities.
    • Conduct routine facility reviews to identify service gaps, process inconsistencies, staffing concerns, and improvement opportunities.
    • Standardize logistics processes across facilities where appropriate while maintaining customer-specific requirements.
    • Support new-client implementations, customer transitions, volume increases, peak periods, and changes in operational requirements.
    Customer Account Management
    • Serve as a primary day-to-day logistics contact for assigned 3PL customers.
    • Understand each customer's operating requirements, transportation expectations, communication protocols, escalation procedures, and KPIs.
    • Provide timely and accurate updates regarding shipment status, appointments, delays, capacity constraints, and service risks.
    • Proactively identify and communicate potential service failures before customer commitments are impacted.
    • Participate in customer performance reviews and provide operational updates, root-cause findings, and corrective-action plans.
    • Ensure customer inquiries and escalations are acknowledged, investigated, and resolved within established expectations.
    • Maintain professional customer relationships and support customer retention, satisfaction, and account growth.
    Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead, coach, and develop logistics clerks, specialists, and other assigned logistics associates.
    • Establish daily priorities and ensure workloads are appropriately distributed across customers and facilities.
    • Set clear expectations for attendance, productivity, accuracy, communication, customer service, teamwork, and professional conduct.
    • Monitor staffing and attendance and establish appropriate coverage plans.
    • Cross-train associates across customers, facilities, and logistics processes to strengthen operational coverage and business continuity.
    • Conduct routine coaching, performance discussions, development conversations, and team meetings.
    • Partner with leadership and Human Resources on staffing, recruiting, onboarding, retention, employee relations, and performance management.
    Transportation & Carrier Coordination
    • Oversee daily truckload, LTL, expedite, parcel, dedicated, and other applicable transportation activities supporting assigned customers.
    • Coordinate transportation requests, pickup requirements, delivery schedules, and carrier appointments.
    • Monitor carrier ETAs and communicate changes to customers and operational teams.
    • Ensure transportation capacity is secured according to customer requirements and established lead-time expectations.
    • Escalate capacity constraints, late pickups, missed appointments, carrier cancellations, and other transportation risks.
    • Coordinate recovery plans for transportation service failures.
    • Support carrier-performance reviews and identify recurring service issues.
    • Monitor detention, layover, TONU, demurrage, and other applicable accessorial risks and ensure potential charges are appropriately documented and escalated.
    Appointment & Shipment Management
    • Ensure inbound and outbound appointments are scheduled accurately and within required customer and facility timelines.
    • Monitor appointment queues, past-due shipments, reschedules, cancellations, and appointment exceptions.
    • Maintain visibility of critical shipments, expedites, customer priorities, and time-sensitive freight.
    • Coordinate with warehouse Operations to validate freight readiness before confirming critical transportation commitments.
    • Ensure shipment information and documentation are complete and accurately communicated.
    • Escalate potential shipment failures early enough for Operations, Transportation, and customers to implement recovery actions.
    • Monitor open shipments through completion and ensure exceptions are documented and resolved.
    KPI & Performance Management
    • Monitor and report logistics performance across assigned clients and facilities.
    • Maintain accurate customer and operational scorecards.
    • Analyze performance trends and identify recurring service failures, process gaps, and improvement opportunities.
    • Conduct root-cause analysis and develop corrective actions for missed performance expectations.
    • Ensure data integrity and consistent KPI definitions across assigned operations.
    • Present performance results, risks, and corrective actions to logistics leadership and customer stakeholders as required.
    Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to simplify and standardize logistics processes across customers and facilities.
    • Eliminate unnecessary manual processes, duplicate communication, rework, and operational delays.
    • Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, escalation matrices, customer profiles, and process documentation.
    • Support implementation and optimization of TMS, WMS, reporting, and other logistics technology.
    • Partner with leadership and analysts to improve dashboards, reporting tools, and operational visibility.
    • Participate in structured problem-solving and continuous-improvement initiatives.
    Cross-Functional Partnership
    • Partner closely with Warehouse Operations, Transportation, Customer Service, Planning, Safety, Human Resources, Technology, and other supporting functions.
    • Establish clear ownership and communication expectations between Logistics and Operations.
    • Ensure customer and operational requests are routed through established communication channels and escalation processes.
    • Promote consistent communication and accountability across facilities.
    • Escalate significant risks to the Logistics Manager/Senior Logistics Manager or Director of Logistics with clear facts, business impact, corrective actions, and recommended next steps.
    Safety, Compliance & Risk
    • Promote a proactive safety culture across assigned logistics activities.
    • Ensure associates follow company safety, security, transportation, and facility procedures.
    • Support compliance with applicable DOT, OSHA, customer, security, and transportation requirements.
    • Ensure transportation and shipment documentation is maintained according to company and customer requirements.
    • Immediately escalate significant safety, security, customer, or compliance concerns.
    • Support audits, investigations, corrective actions, and business-continuity planning.

  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
    • 5+ years of progressive experience in logistics, transportation, warehousing, distribution, fulfillment, or third-party logistics operations.
    • 3+ years of supervisory or team-lead experience in a logistics, transportation, warehouse, or 3PL environment.
    • Experience supporting multiple customers, facilities, accounts, or operational workstreams strongly preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of inbound and outbound transportation, appointment scheduling, carrier management, warehouse operations, and customer-service processes.
    • Experience managing operational KPIs and conducting root-cause analysis.
    • Experience working with WMS, TMS, ERP, or comparable logistics systems.
    • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple customer requirements simultaneously.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Teams, and related business applications.
    • Ability to travel regularly between four assigned facilities and adjust working hours when operational or customer requirements dictate.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in a multi-client 3PL environment.
    • Experience supervising logistics activities across multiple facilities.
    • Experience with high-volume retail, distribution, fulfillment, or e-commerce customers.
    • Experience with truckload, LTL, expedite, parcel, and dedicated transportation.
    • Experience with Logiwa, Manhattan, or comparable logistics platforms.
    • Experience developing SOPs, customer work instructions, escalation processes, and operational scorecards.
    • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous-improvement training or experience.
