CAT 980 Wheel Loader Operator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused CAT 980 Wheel Loader Operator to join our operations team. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a Caterpillar 980 wheel loader in support of aggregate, material handling, and site operations. The ideal candidate takes pride in their equipment, follows safety protocols without exception, and works well as part of a team in an outdoor, fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Pay: $24.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a Caterpillar 980 wheel loader in accordance with site procedures and safety regulations
  • Load customer trucks, haul trucks, hoppers, crushers, screens, and conveyors as directed
  • Build, maintain, and reclaim material stockpiles
  • Blend materials to meet production and quality specifications
  • Perform pre-operational inspections and complete required equipment checklists daily
  • Monitor machine performance and promptly report any mechanical issues, damage, or safety concerns
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition
  • Assist with road maintenance, drainage control, snow removal, and general site housekeeping as needed
  • Follow all MSHA, OSHA, and company safety regulations at all times
  • Communicate effectively with scale operators, truck drivers, plant operators, mechanics, and supervisors
  • Operate equipment efficiently to minimize fuel consumption and equipment wear
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks such as fueling, greasing, and cleaning equipment when assigned
  • Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training programs

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders and safely access equipment
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions including dust, heat, cold, and rain
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and depth perception required for safe equipment operation

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience operating large wheel loaders, specifically a CAT 980 or similar class machine
  • Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in varying weather and site conditions
  • Basic understanding of equipment maintenance and inspection procedures
  • Ability to read and understand safety procedures and operational instructions
  • Strong attention to safety and situational awareness
  • Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations is a plus
  • Must pass background and Drug test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aggregate mining, sand and gravel, or construction site environments
  • Knowledge of loading techniques and stockpile management
  • Understanding of site traffic patterns and equipment blind spots
  • Experience operating water trucks or light support vehicles
