Summary

Under the direction of the Fabrication Supervisor, the Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a machine during the production cycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Operates and control machine settings
  • Effectively uses overhead cranes to lift steel onto machine
  • Feeds material through the machine, creating specific cuts/holes into the columns and/or beams
  • Identifies and loads correct electronic data, AutoCAD files and machine programs to complete the setup for each job.
  • Examines work and check defects regularly
  • Completes and maintains any required paperwork, records and documents
  • Checks work area for hazards
  • Complies with safety regulations and wears appropriate PPE at all times
  • Leaves work area in a clean/safe state when shift is complete

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; or demonstrated extensive welding experience
  • 1-2 years of machine operating experience preferred
  • Prior CNC programming experience is a plus

Other skills

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints
  • Ability to understand measurements and use a tape measurer

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful, but not required.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instruction provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
