Quality Technician - Chemist (3rd Shift)

Are you ready to play a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of products that millions of pets and people trust? As a Quality Technician - Chemist, you will drive excellence by performing sophisticated analytical, physical, and chemical testing that directly impacts our site’s success. By mastering data analysis for finished products and raw materials, you will ensure we meet rigorous regulatory requirements while upholding the high standards that make Hill's Pet Nutrition a global leader in quality. You will be the frontline expert recommending corrective actions and maintaining the integrity of our food safety and GMP programs.

In this 3rd shift role (11:00pm–7:00am), you will develop your technical expertise while directly impacting the production of nutritionally superior pet food. For the first 2 to 3 months, you will work the day shift to fully immerse yourself in our processes and laboratory standards. Following this initial training period, you will transition to your permanent 3rd shift (11pm–7am) schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Execute high-precision analytical testing and inspection of raw materials and finished products to ensure every item meets our strict Quality Plan and SOPs.
  • Verify and document essential food safety data, including PCQI/COA verification, and ensure 100% accuracy of analytical results within SAP and digital databases.
  • Maintain and calibrate advanced laboratory equipment (e.g., ICP, NIR, Karl Fischer) to ensure peak performance and reliability of testing data.
  • Collaborate with third-party laboratories and internal stakeholders to resolve testing discrepancies and keep our quality manuals at the cutting edge of industry standards.
  • Lead facility-wide continuous improvement projects and cross-train team members in statistical concepts and microbiological testing to foster a growth mindset.
  • Audit testing results to identify trends, perform lab investigations, and support regulatory compliance for FDA, USDA, and internal audits.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in an analytical laboratory within the food, consumer product, or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Operational Flexibility: Ability to work any schedule, including weekends, and the physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory information systems (e.g., SAP) and advanced math/statistical skills for data analysis.
  • Previous experience in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry and knowledge of analytical method validation.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, facilitate progress, and communicate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Proven track record of data-driven decision-making and leadership in a laboratory or quality setting.
