What does a 3D texture artist do?
A 3D Texture Artist creates the surface details of 3D models by applying textures, colors, and patterns to enhance realism or stylization. They work with tools like Photoshop, Substance Painter, and Mari to craft high-quality materials such as metal, fabric, or skin. Their work is essential in video games, films, and animations to make objects and characters look believable. Texture artists often collaborate with modelers, lighting artists, and animators to ensure seamless visual integration.
What skills and qualifications are needed to be a 3D texture artist?
To thrive as a 3D Texture Artist, you need expertise in texture painting, UV mapping, and a solid understanding of materials and surface detail, typically supported by a relevant art or design degree. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Adobe Substance Painter, Photoshop, and 3D software like Maya or Blender is essential, with certification in these tools considered a plus.
