Role Summary

As theLead Construction Surveyor, you will head allgeomaticsand layout activities for our underground utility and land development projects.You'llbe the primary site contact for survey work, coordinating closely with Superintendents, Foremen, andsurvey assistantsto ensure every project meets design specs with total accuracy.

In this role you willbe responsible forthe following:

  • Drawing Interpretation- Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure layout accuracy andmake informedfield adjustments
  • Layout and SurveyExecution-Leadlayoutactivitiesfor construction includingdeep underground utilities, grading, and infrastructure, ensuring alignment with design specifications
  • Software and Data Processing- Use Trimble Access to manage layout tasks, collect field data, and ensure proper integration with survey equipment.Maintainworkflow accuracy using approved survey files and promote consistency across crews
  • Data Collection and Notes- Workindependently to collect field survey data and maintain clear, accurate, and concise daily records
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance- Operate GPS, robotic total stations,builder'slevels, and digital levels;ensure equipment ismaintainedand calibrated for reliable performance
  • Field Team Coordination- Work closely with Foremen, Superintendents,crews,and external contractors to plan and delivertimely,accuratelayout and support efficient site operations
  • Problem Solving and Field Support - Identify and resolve layout challenges in the field, working with project teams and contractors tomaintainaccuracy and keep workprogressing efficiently
  • Safety and Compliance- Follow GS Construction safety procedures andensure all survey activities alignwith OH&S and project-specific safety requirements

Qualifications

Must Have:

  • 5-7 years ofgeomatics/survey experience in civil or industrial construction
  • Proficient in Trimble survey equipment and Trimble Access software
  • Skilled in GPS,RoboticTotalStations,Builders levels, and digital levels
  • Experience setting up and running base stations
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independentlyand take ownershipin a fast-paced field environment
  • Self-driven, reliable,punctual,andaccountableteam contributor

Assets:

  • Experience with deep underground utility layoutand infrastructure
  • Familiarity withsurvey and processing software such as Civil3D, Global Mapper, Trimble Business Center, DJI Terra, or DJI Modify
  • Advanced Drone Pilot Certificate (Transport Canada)
  • Experience with 3D scanning and drone data processing
  • Knowledge of Topcon machine control systems or file creation
  • Experience setting up dimensional control networks
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Willingness to work overtime asrequired

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • This is a physically active, outdoor role.You'llbe working in all kinds of weather
  • You'llneed to be comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and handling physically demanding tasks throughout the day
  • Work takes place on active construction sites with heavy equipment, uneven terrain, and live underground utilities
