Stratasys Direct Manufacturing (SDM) is seeking a Painter II for our Minnetonka, MN location. In this role, you will perform advanced post-processing and surface finishing on 3D-printed parts, including cosmetic and non-cosmetic painting, masking, specialty coatings, sanding, media blasting, polishing, support removal, hardware installation, and other finishing operations to achieve the required appearance and functionality. Additional responsibilities include operating paint booth equipment, performing quality inspections and part counts, following work instructions, reviewing quotes, and participating in daily production meetings to ensure quality and on-time delivery.
What you will be doing:
  • May prepare parts for finishing
  • Reviews files of each part assigned and follows work order instructions and customer blueprints to ensure finished part meets customer requirements, with an understanding of build ID and the work order
  • Uses a variety of electric and hand tools such as sanders to smooth surfaces and edges, drill to drill holes
  • Performs advanced and custom finishing techniques for prototype models and production parts without supervision
  • Applies cosmetic and non-cosmetic paint finishes and specialty coatings
  • Demonstrates knowledge of different material types and which finishing techniques are required for each
  • Performs insert installation, hole tapping, and assembly, including Heli coils and higher requirement assemblies under minimal supervision
  • Performs segment bonding on oversized parts
  • Uses a variety of hand tools to touchup parts as needed before turning in finished work
  • Performs basic 6-point inspection with minimal supervision where required
  • Processing rework orders under minimal supervision
  • Uses Solid Jobs and Solid View with full competence
  • Understands all aspects of shipment schedule and shipment dates
  • Complies with Quality Management System
  • Follows all standard operating procedures for department and ISO, ITAR, and Aerospace requirements
  • Maintains traceability of all parts in build by completing required paperwork and comparing quantity of the build to the order, and for serialization if needed
  • Completes and properly signs off on all paperwork and computer work for each job
  • Accurately reads and records information (i. e. material manufacture date, serial number, and other criteria) that is critical to the manufacturing process
  • Observes and identifies faulty parts based on work orders
  • Follows established production workflow for part traceability
  • Addresses problems with parts and production with Lead/Supervisor
  • Completes and signs off on all paperwork and computer work properly for each job.
  • Maintains the Finishing Area by keeping the work area clean, stocking supplies, etc.
  • Collaborate closely with operators and engineers to troubleshoot and resolve finishing related challenges
  • Contributes to continuous improvement projects
  • Monitors relevant shop supplies, material, and PPE inventory and requests reorder as needed
  • Strictly adheres to proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend all required company training
  • Demonstrate commitments to Stratasys Behaviors by leading, acting, and modeling these values
  • Other Responsibilities as assigned by the department or manager

Must have for this role:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Advanced math skills
  • Advanced computer experience is a must (Microsoft Office and email)
  • Previous experience working with hands specifically fine motor skills and has keen sense of details
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and craftsmanship
  • 2-3+ years of previous measurement experience using hand tools
  • 2-3+ years of previous experience working with shop equipment including drill press, hand drills, sanders, UV lighting, etc.
  • 2+ years' experience with cosmetic and non-cosmetic paint and specialty coatings
  • Ability to work well independently and/ or with a partner(s)

Nice to have:
  • 3+ years previous work experience in manufacturing end use parts
  • Experience with precision measurement equipment a plus
  • Blueprint reading certification is a plus, but not required

For this position, the typical pay rate is $22 to $28 per hour, which does not include variable incentive pay. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. Your individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, geographical location, and/or experiences.
