What does a 3d modeler intern do?

A 3D Modeler Intern assists in creating digital models of objects, environments, or characters using specialized software such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max. They typically work under the guidance of experienced modelers, helping to design, texture, and refine assets for use in video games, movies, animation, or product visualization. Interns may also collaborate with other team members, learn industry-standard workflows, and contribute to various stages of the 3D production pipeline.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 3d modeler intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 3D Modeler Intern, you need a solid understanding of 3D modeling concepts, basic art or design education, and proficiency with fundamental modeling techniques. Experience with industry-standard software such as Blender, Autodesk Maya, or 3ds Max is typically expected, along with familiarity with file formats and version control systems. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to take constructive feedback are standout soft skills for this position. These competencies are essential for producing high-quality, optimized assets and collaborating effectively in a professional production pipeline.

What types of projects and collaboration can a 3d modeler intern expect during their internship?

As a 3D Modeler Intern, you will typically work on a variety of projects ranging from asset creation for games or animation to assisting with environmental or character modeling. You’ll often collaborate closely with senior modelers, animators, and texture artists, receiving constructive feedback and learning industry-standard workflows. Interns are usually included in team meetings and may have opportunities to contribute to brainstorming sessions or pipeline improvements. This hands-on experience helps build both technical and teamwork skills, setting a solid foundation for a full-time role in the industry.

What is the difference between 3D Modeler Intern vs 3D Artist Intern?

Job description

****Please note: This position is exclusively for the Fall 2026 internship term****
Our research team works on cutting-edge projects in the field of computer vision (CV) and artificial intelligence (AI) - helping machines perceive, understand, and reason about the world around them. We are looking for a passionate and talented intern to join our research team. The ideal candidate is highly motivated with broad knowledge in CV/AI, and with demonstrated ability for new technology research and a proven record of influential publications in related fields. The intern will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of researchers in the exploration of advanced techniques and contribute to the projects.
This candidate is expected to:
• Conduct original research in computer vision, including but not limited to spatial intelligence and reasoning (e.g. 3D/4D scene understanding, reconstruction, embodied perception, vision-language models, multimodal generative modeling, etc.), from conceptualization through implementation and evaluation.
• Identify state-of-the-art (SOTA) techniques, performing systematic literature reviews and benchmarking existing methods to inspire new ideas.
• Conduct experimental studies and refine solutions based on qualitative evaluation and quantitative metrics.
• Write research papers and publish findings in top-tier CV/ML conferences and journals.
Requirements:
• Deep understanding of computer vision and machine learning fundamentals; experience with 3D vision, geometric reasoning, or embodied AI is a plus
• Strong programming skills in Python and hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, etc.
• Proven experience in conducting original research in computer vision, with at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal or conference
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to contribute to academic publications and present research findings
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team
• PhD student in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or a related field
Hourly interns pay range: $18 to $59, depending on degree-seeking academic program (PhD, Master's, Bachelor's, etc.), years of relevant experience, year in school, geographic location, credentials, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
