3D Machine Learning information

What is 3d machine learning?

3D machine learning is a field of artificial intelligence focused on developing algorithms and models that can process and understand three-dimensional data. This includes tasks such as object recognition, scene reconstruction, segmentation, and analysis using 3D data formats like point clouds, meshes, or volumetric grids. Applications of 3D machine learning are found in areas like autonomous driving, robotics, medical imaging, and augmented reality. The field combines techniques from computer vision, deep learning, and geometry processing to interpret complex spatial information.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 3d machine learning engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 3D Machine Learning Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, mathematics, and experience with 3D data processing and machine learning algorithms, typically supported by a relevant degree. Expertise in tools and frameworks like Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow, and libraries such as Open3D or PCL is commonly required, along with familiarity with 3D data formats. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills enable the development of innovative solutions for complex 3D data challenges, which are crucial for advancements in fields like robotics, computer vision, and AR/VR.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in 3d machine learning, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in 3D machine learning often encounter challenges such as handling large and complex datasets, managing high computational requirements, and ensuring model robustness across diverse 3D data types (e.g., point clouds, meshes, voxel grids). Addressing these challenges typically involves using efficient data preprocessing pipelines, leveraging cloud computing or advanced GPU resources, and staying updated with the latest research on 3D data augmentation and model architectures. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—including data engineers, computer vision experts, and domain specialists—is also crucial for overcoming technical obstacles and producing practical, scalable solutions.

What is the difference between 3D Machine Learning vs 3D Computer Vision?

Job description

About Ecopia AI
Ecopia AI, is a technology company with the mission of digitizing the world using artificial intelligence through the creation of high-definition maps. Ecopia's AI-based workflows leverage the latest in machine learning and computer vision to extract 2D and 3D features from remotely sensed high-resolution imagery (i.e. satellite, aerial, drone, street view, etc.). Ecopia has experience leveraging AI and geospatial data to create and maintain large-scale, highly accurate maps across 100+ countries around the world. Specifically, Ecopia has generated maps across over 50 million km2 around the world from fresh high-resolution satellite & aerial imagery. Ecopia is one of the fastest-growing technology companies in North America, continuously recognized with awards from leading organizations such as Deloitte, CNBC, and Geospatial World. Example clients include:

  • Federal Governments (including the US, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand);
  • State Governments (including Connecticut, California, Washington, Illinois, Alaska);
  • Local Governments (including Los Angeles, Seattle, Detroit, Toronto);
  • Large insurance companies (including 7 of the top 10 US P&C carriers); and
  • NGOs (including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Bank, and USAID)

We are expanding into a dedicated civil engineering vertical, and this internship will support revenue growth through prospecting, calls and emails to potential customers.

The Role
As a Business Development Intern, you will support our go to market efforts within the civil engineering space. This is hands on and client facing role designed for students pursuing a degree in business. Your responsibilities will involve outbound outreach, account research, and early-stage conversations with engineering firms. Your typical day will involve prospecting new companies and individual users and reaching out to them via cold calls, emails, LinkedIn, and others. You will work closely with senior team members to learn how data is positioned, pitched, and sold into real engineering workflows.

What You'll Do

  • Research and identify firms that align with Ecopia's data offerings
  • Support outbound outreach efforts through email, calls, and LinkedIn
  • Help initiate conversations with engineering firms and qualify early interest
  • Maintain accurate lead and activity tracking
  • Sit in on sales and discovery calls to understand customer needs and use cases
  • Help refine messaging tailored to civil engineering applications

What We're Looking For

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable with outreach, follow ups, rejection, and relationship building
  • Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working toward clear goals and KPIs

What You'll Gain

  • Competitive salary with commission opportunity
  • Real world experience in technology based business development
  • Meaningful work from day 1 that directly impacts company revenue
  • Understanding on how new business verticals are developed and go-to-market strategies
  • Direct mentorship from experienced business development professionals
  • A strong foundation for careers in sales, consulting, engineering, or technology
  • Exposure to how infrastructure data supports engineering decisions
